Pete Buttigieg calls out Trump’s ‘Olympic’ level of lies as he slams JD Vance for attacking Tim Walz
WASHINGTON, DC: In response to Republicans accusing Governor Tim Walz (D-Minn) of fabricating his military record, Pete Buttigieg made a damning statement about GOP presidential contender Donald Trump.
The Secretary of Transportation defended the newly announced Democratic vice presidential candidate, Chris Walz, over remarks he made regarding his time in the Army National Guard, during an appearance on CNN's 'State of the Union' on Sunday, August 11.
Pete Buttigieg slams JD Vance over Walz criticism, says Trump participating in 'Olympics of lying'
Buttigieg first blamed Walz's remarks on clumsiness, but later he turned the tables on the Republicans, HuffPost reported.
“Look, I think in many ways, it’s the exception that proves the rule, If the only thing that they can find about Tim Walz to complain about is to disparage his military record that is clearly honorable,” Buttigieg explained.
Turning his attention to Republican vice-presidential candidate Senator JD Vance of Ohio, who had earlier accused Governor Tim Walz during an interview on the program, “lying about his service for political gain,” Buttigieg said, “There’s something, I think, much bigger at play here.”
“I watched JD Vance present himself as suddenly very particular about precision in speech and very concerned about honesty,” the cabinet member remarked.
Reminding viewers, Buttigieg said, "He's running with Donald Trump. Somebody who has set records for lying in public life.” The secretary used Trump's meandering, one-hour press conference on Thursday, August 8, from his Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago, as evidence.
“He just gave a press conference where fact checkers estimate that he told 162 distortions or lies,” Buttigieg said. “That frankly is impressive in terms of being able to physically do that. It’s like the Olympics of lying.”
Omg. Pete didn’t mince words destroying Trump this morning.

NPR released a comprehensive fact-check on the former president this Sunday, revealing that Trump either exaggerated or completely fabricated facts more than 13 dozen times.
His falsehoods spanned topics such as crime, the economy, and the border, along with a confused recounting of a helicopter emergency dating back to 1990.
