WATCH: JD Vance insinuates Tim Walz doesn’t love his wife as he tries to flip ‘weird’ label
WASHINGTON, DC: Republican vice presidential nominee Sen JD Vance attempted to turn the tables against his Democratic rival Minnesota Gov Tim Walz for calling him "weird".
The Ohio Senator made a bizarre insinuation to assert Walz was the "weird" one by citing the Democrat's recent behavior when he met his wife, Gwen Walz, on stage at a rally.
Hours after becoming Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, the Minnesota governor ripped into former president Donald Trump and his VP pick Vance, labeling the duo "weird" at a Pennsylvania rally last week. The Democratic campaign adopted this strategy, which went viral on social media.

What did JD Vance say about Tim and Gwen Walz to deflect his 'weird' label?
In a pre-recorded interview with CNN's Dana Bash aired on Sunday, August 11, JD Vance was pressed about the "weird" tag and how Donald Trump threw him under the bus. The host pointed out The New York Times reported that Trump said Democrats were talking about his running mate being "weird" and not him.
Vance responded to this by claiming the "weird" labeling was Harris-Walz ticket's attempt to "distract from their own policy failures".
He brought up the way Walz shook his wife's hand at the Philadelphia rally on August 6 before hugging her onstage, where Harris introduced him as her running mate. The Republican accused his opponents of "a little bit of projection," citing the contradiction on how he hugged and kissed his wife, Usha Vance, after giving his first speech as Trump's running mate.
"Tim Walz gave his wife a nice, firm Midwestern handshake, and then tried to sort of awkwardly correct for it," Vance noted.

"I think what it is, is two people, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, who aren't comfortable in their own skin, because they're uncomfortable with their policy positions for the American people," he continued. "And so they're name-calling instead of actually telling the American people how they're going to make their lives better. I think that's weird, Dana, but look, they can call me whatever they want to."
Bash asked whether he was insinuating Walz did not love his wife. Vance said the Minnesota governor "acted weird, which he did, on a national stage in front of his wife".
The "weird" tag against Vance was triggered in part by his remarks in a 2021 interview that resurfaced after his nomination as Trump's VP mate last month. In the controversial interview, the congressman claimed that the US was run by "childless cat ladies," particularly mentioning Harris, who is a stepmother to her husband Doug Emhoff's children from his first marriage.
Internet calls out JD Vance for claiming Tim Walz has no affection for his wife
Netizens accused JD Vance of "deflection" as he argued Tim Walz was the "weird" one due to his behavior with his wife on stage.
"Ah, yes, deflect and lie. Age old Republican political strategy," a user wrote.
"Tim Walz is coming across as the most authentic person in politics right now, and JD Vance is trying to "I know you are but what am I" and label Walz as weird? Wow, Vance is so incredibly horrible at this," another remarked.
"Deflective tactic….She should have asked if he loves couches…" added a third user.
"Walz just doesn’t use his wife as a political tool, like @JDVance does," read a fourth response.

"Deflect & Deny. That should be the new MAGA motto," someone else said.
"He won't stick up for his wife after his own people denigrate her on social media. That handshake and embrace...I think it was a courtesy so makeup was not smudged. Like those fake kisses on award shows," an individual argued.
"He so weird trying to make someone else sound weird. His weirdness has reached a meta level," another user chimed in.
"When Trump/Vance come out this early and trash talk, you know they have no policy to offer Americans. Absolutely none. They’re trying to sell you a car, sight unseen, and asking you to just trust them," read one remark.
