Plane lands between cars on Pennsylvania interstate, all onboard walk away safe
ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA: A routine Saturday, April 4 morning drive turned into a surprising and dramatic scene in Pennsylvania's Allentown when a small aircraft was forced to land directly onto a major highway after running into trouble mid-flight.
The unexpected touchdown unfolded on Interstate 78, catching drivers completely off guard as the plane descended and maneuvered between moving vehicles.

Pilot forced to improvise after engine trouble
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft identified as a Rockwell Commander encountered engine issues while in the air, prompting the pilot to make a split-second decision.
Unable to reach a nearby airport, the pilot instead guided the plane onto the eastbound lanes of I-78 around 9:20 am. The landing took place near Weisenberg Township in Lehigh County, an area not exactly designed for aircraft arrivals.
Yet despite the obvious risks, the maneuver was carried out without any reported injuries.
Authorities later confirmed that the two people onboard - a 65-year-old pilot from Michigan and a 34-year-old passenger from New Jersey both walked away unharmed, a remarkable outcome given the circumstances.

Car driver captures shocking moment
The dramatic landing was captured on dashcam footage that quickly began circulating online, showing the plane flying unusually low before aligning itself with the highway and touching down.
One of the witnesses, Emily Rivera, happened to be driving through the area at the time, traveling from Harrisburg toward the Lehigh Valley.
She reportedly described the moment as something she never imagined witnessing in real life.
“Honestly I was in disbelief because I never expected a plane to land in front of me!” Rivera said.
She added that she was struck by how controlled the landing appeared despite the emergency.
The footage shows the aircraft gliding onto the road and gradually slowing, narrowly avoiding traffic as drivers around it reacted in real time.
Highway shut down, traffic diverted for hours
Following the landing, Pennsylvania State Police moved quickly to secure the area, shutting down eastbound lanes of Interstate 78 to prevent further danger and allow emergency crews to respond.
Traffic was diverted at Exit 40 in Berks County, leading to delays for several hours as crews worked to clear the aircraft and assess the situation.
Westbound traffic, however, remained open during the incident.
Officials reportedly confirmed to several media outlets later that the plane had taken off from Solberg Airport and was en route to Indiana before the mechanical failure forced the emergency landing.
By early afternoon, around 1 p.m., the roadway was cleared and normal traffic resumed.
