LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s place in the United States could be at risk with Donald Trump's return to the White House due to a past admission made by the Duke of Sussex.

In his 2023 bombshell memoir 'Spare', Harry opened up about his past use of psychedelic substances, including taking magic mushrooms at a Los Angeles party and smoking marijuana on other occasions, which has raised concern among royal experts, as per the Express.

Prince Harry might have lied on his US visa application about his past drug use

Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal commentator, was particularly critical of Prince Harry’s decision to be so public about his drug use, which he felt was an "extremely foolish" move on the 40-year-old's side and could have dire consequences for the Sussexes.

He noted that while the couple has generally kept a low profile during the current election cycle, encouraging Americans to vote without endorsing any specific candidate, this admission could still come back to haunt them.

Fitzwilliams further remarked, "It is most unlikely that Trump would risk an embarrassing episode involving the royal family by expelling Harry if it was discovered that he had not disclosed his drug use on his visa application."

Donald Trump won't grant 'special privileges' to Prince Harry

During an interview with Nigel Farage on GB News in March, Donald Trump was asked whether Prince Harry would receive "special privileges" while in the US.

The former responded curtly, "No. We'll have to see if they know something about the drugs, and if he lied, they’ll have to take appropriate action."

Farage pressed further, asking if "appropriate action" could mean Harry being expelled from the country. Trump replied vaguely, "Oh I don’t know. You’ll have to tell me. You just have to tell me. You would have thought they would have known this a long time ago."

The comments from Trump might suggest that if it were revealed that Harry had lied about his drug use on his visa application, the couple could face serious consequences.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding their future in the country, the Sussexes,  are reportedly not without contingency plans.

Harry and Meghan have made arrangements for a potential move to Portugal, where they own a new holiday home near Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s property, according to the Mirror. This could serve as a backup plan should their stay in the US become untenable.

In 'Spare', released in January 2023, Harry recalls a vivid experience at a Hollywood party after consuming magic mushrooms, describing how a bin transformed into a grinning face.

Harry also shared that while cocaine had little effect on him, "Marijuana is different, that actually really did help me." This level of openness, rarely seen from a member of the British royal family, has generated both praise and criticism.
