WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CALIFORNIA: California socialite Rebecca Grossman, 60, accused of murdering Jacob Iskander, eight, and Mark Iskander, 11, arrived at Los Angeles Superior Court accompanied by her plastic surgeon husband, Dr Peter Grossman, and their daughter on Friday, January 19.
The high-profile case involves allegations that Rebecca, a mother-of-two, was chasing her secret lover, former Dodgers star Scott Erickson, 55, as she struck the brother at a speed between 71 and 81 mph in September 2020, as per Daily Mail.
Timeline of the tragic car crash involving Rebecca Grossman and Scott Erickson
The heartbreaking incident occurred when a Mercedes SUV, allegedly driven by Rebecca, collided with the brothers on a crosswalk in Westlake Village in September 2020.
Mark apparently soared 250 feet into the air while his mother, Nancy Iskander, and her five-year-old son, Zachary, witnessed the unfolding horror.
According to prosecutors, Rebecca was racing with her alleged lover, Erickson, following a boozy lunch. The alleged couple was on their way to an apartment.
Despite the slew of scandalous allegations, Peter is standing by his wife and vehemently denies her hand in the incident. He is now seeking to contest claims she was driving the killer's car.
However, eyewitnesses adamantly assert that she was indeed the one behind the wheel, contending that Erickson's vehicle narrowly avoided colliding with the boys before Rebecca's car delivered the fatal impact.
Heartbroken mother recalls terrifying details of the collision
Having said that, Nancy, the mother of the boys, explained that she couldn't see which of the two vehicles struck her sons.
Recalling the tragic incident, she detailed how she and Jacob were on inline skates while crossing the road, Mark on his skateboard, and her youngest son, Zachary, on his scooter.
Nancy noted, "The speed was insane. They were zigzagging with each other as if they were playing or racing."
"They didn't stop before the intersection. They didn't stop at the intersection. They didn't stop when an 11-year-old was on the hood of the car. Nobody stopped," asserted the mother, as per Daily Mail.
Rebecca, out on a $2 million bond, is facing a trial expected to last six weeks.
Charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death, she can potentially be sentenced to up to 34 years in prison.
