Rebecca Grossman cries during trial as ME reveals imprints on dead boy's body match her Mercedes
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CALIFORNIA: LA socialite Rebecca Grossman appeared emotional during her court appearance on Tuesday, February 6. Grossman, 62, is on trial for the murders of Mark Iskander, 11, and his 8-year-old brother Jacob Iskander, who were killed while crossing the road on September 29, 2020.
Mark had crisscross abrasions imprinted on his body that matched the pattern on the front grill of the white Mercedes owned by Grossman, as reported by Daily Mail.
Rebecca Grossman was driving at 'high speed'
Forensic pathologist Dr Matthew Miller told the court that the boys' injuries were consistent with being slammed into at a "high rate of speed."
When Deputy District Attorney Jamie Castro displayed magnified, gruesome images of Mark's crushed cranium and horribly malformed broken right arm, Grossman started crying.
"The pattern of the injuries is almost an exact match with the pattern of the grill," Dr Miller, who was working for the LA County Coroner at the time, told the court.
"I would have expected him to have been knocked unconscious immediately and for him to die in seconds or minutes," Dr Miller told the jury in reference to Mark's horrific injuries, which also included a "complete separation of his spinal cord" in addition to significant additional bone and pelvic fractures. The injuries he sustained were consistent with being hit by a fast-moving car.
Dreadful details disturb jurors
Equally unsettling blown-up pictures of Jacob's mutilated and disfigured body were displayed by the prosecution, prompting some jurors to turn away. There were deep cuts and scrapes on the right side of his body, including his scalp. His pelvis was broken, along with both of his legs.
But his most serious injury was the "complete dislocation of his spine and skull."
"Not many people could survive such a catastrophic injury," said Dr Miller, adding that the few who do live are "completely paralyzed" from the neck down.
Asked by DDA Castro if Jacob’s injury "was consistent with a high speed single vehicle collision," Dr Miller answered, "Yes."
Dr Miller said that Mark died from "blunt force traumatic injuries," the same cause of death he ascribed to eight-year-old Jacob Iskander.
According to the prosecution, Grossman's speed at the time of the collision may have reached 81 mph. Grossman disputes the accusations, and her defense argues that the children were struck by her lover, 56-year-old former professional baseball player Scott Erickson, with whom she had earlier had margaritas. Castro played for Dr Miller a videotaped recreation of the collision, produced by Grossman's legal team.
In it, a black Mercedes SUV driven by Scott Erickson strikes the two boys, sending Mark flying into the air before crashing into the bonnet of Grossman's white SUV, which is trailing behind.
Additionally, on Tuesday's hearing, Grossman's legal team tried to get the boys' mother Nancy Iskander removed from court after she broke down during criminalist Christopher Lee's testimony about finding bloodstains on Grossman's damaged white Mercedes after the tragic crash.
