SPARTANBURG, PENNSYLVANIA: Pennsylvania authorities are delving into the mysterious killing of 23-year-old pregnant Amish woman Rebekah A Byler, whose lifeless body was discovered at her Sparta Township home on Monday, February 26.

State police responded to a call just before 12:30 pm in the 21000 block of Fish Flats Road, where they discovered Rebekah A Byler deceased, prompting an investigation now being treated as a homicide.

Neighbors, initially unaware of the circumstances, revealed that a young Amish couple, including Byler and her husband, resides in the Sparta Township home, approximately 37 miles southeast of Erie.

“At approximately 12:30, PSP Corry got a call from 911 of a deceased female who was found at the scene. At this point, we have confirmed the identity of the female, that she is deceased, and it looks like suspicious circumstances,” state police Lt Mark Weindorf disclosed.

Authorities stated that Byler's two young children were present in the home when her lifeless body was discovered. Her husband returned home around noon and made the grim discovery, as reported by the New York Post.

Family members stated that Byler, who was six months pregnant, had been residing with them, revealing the complexities of her situation.

Shock and fear grip the Spartanburg community

The Spartanburg community is gripped by bewilderment and fear, with disbelief reverberating throughout.

Charleen Hajec, a pharmacist and Spartanburg native articulated the shock pervasive in the close-knit community, remarking, "Everyone is stunned; this doesn't happen here. Everyone is talking; it's scary and frustrating," ABC reported.

"This is a tight-knit community, the outside world doesn't get in," Hajec added. "To have something this tragic... it doesn't happen here." 

The cause of Byler's death remains undisclosed as investigators piece together the puzzle of the tragedy. 

In the aftermath of Byler's death, the police have urged the public to come forward with any information about suspicious individuals, vehicles, or activities in the vicinity of Fish Flats Road.
