WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla) on Wednesday, May 13, called on President Donald Trump to intensify pressure on Iran, saying the United States military is close to victory as a fragile ceasefire between the two countries continues to hold unevenly.

In an opinion piece published by the Daily Wire, Scott urged Americans to support the administration’s military efforts and described the current moment as a critical opportunity to dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

The comments come as the Trump administration continues to reject Iran’s latest peace proposal and as concerns grow over the economic impact of the prolonged conflict, including higher fuel prices and instability in global energy markets.

Rick Scott says US must seize 'once-in-a-generation' opportunity

In his op-ed, Scott said he continues to support Trump and US military operations in the region, calling the effort a rare strategic opportunity. “The US military is on the brink of victory,” Scott wrote, urging Americans to unite behind the president during the conflict.

The Florida senator described efforts to eliminate Iran’s nuclear capabilities as a “once-in-a-generation chance” and said political disputes in Washington should not distract from military operations.

“At a time like this, we need to focus on helping warriors accomplish the mission, not bicker about process in Washington and speculate on cable news,” he wrote.

Scott also said he supports the goal of “a denuclearized Iran,” adding that the issue should remain above “American political theatrics and electoral math.”

Scott argued that the US should not allow Tehran time to regroup militarily or politically. “We can’t wait for Iran to rebuild. We can’t wait for Iran’s next attack,” Scott wrote. “The radical Islamist regime is hearing its death knell. It’s time to deliver the final blow.”

Republicans acknowledge economic concerns as Iran talks stall

Scott also addressed the domestic economic impact of the conflict, particularly rising energy prices that have affected consumers across the United States.

“I grew up in a poor family. I understand how this squeezes a family’s budget and how unfair it feels when prices rise,” Scott wrote. “Fortunately, I know that President Trump is laser-focused on lowering prices while keeping Americans safe.”

His comments followed recent remarks from Trump, who told reporters before departing for China that he does not “think about Americans’ financial situations” while negotiating with Iran, adding that his focus is preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

House Speaker Mike Johnson also acknowledged the political and economic strain caused by the conflict, saying the war had “put a little damper” on Republican efforts to focus on affordability issues ahead of the midterm elections.

“Now, as soon as (the war in Iran is) resolved, I agree with the Treasury secretary, I agree with the president, you’re going to have an alleviation of the pain at the pump, and you’re going to have prices come down overall,” Johnson said during a press conference.

Meanwhile, diplomatic negotiations remain stalled after Iran submitted a 14-point peace proposal last week seeking a phased end to the conflict, sanctions relief and changes to oversight in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump dismissed the proposal on Sunday, May 10, as “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE,” while Iranian officials warned the economic costs of the conflict would continue if talks fail.
