DENVER, COLORADO: A Colorado teenager is accused of fatally shooting a woman when he was 14 years old. Remi Cordova, 17, made a court appearance on Friday, January 9.

The incident occurred when Pamela Cabriales's car collided with the Cordova's vehicle.

Cordova allegedly exited the vehicle and shot her. Now a judge has decided that Cordova will face trial as an adult.

Following this, Cabriales's brother Alex expressed approval of the decision to try Cordova as an adult as per Daily Mail.

How did Pamela Cabriales die?

While driving home from dinner with a friend, Cabriales came to a stop at a red light in downtown Denver and may have made contact with the rear of Cordova's vehicle.

Subsequently, Cordova got out of the vehicle, retrieved an AR-15 rifle, and then approached Cabriales' car at the red light, volleying 20 shots into her head.

Cordova was accompanied by his friend Neshan Johnson while he fatally shot Cabriales.

If Remi Cordova is found guilty as a juvenile, he would face a maximum prison sentence of seven years, but as an adult, he is potentially looking at up to 40 years behind bars.

Cordova already has a pervious criminal record.

In a court session on Friday, a judge ser Cordova's bail at $5 million in cash, implying that he is expected to stay in jail until his trial for the alleged murder of Pamela Cabriales in 2021.

Cordova's friend Neshan Johnson, 18 who was behind the wheel, and both teenagers are identified as gang members, according to prosecutors' reports. 

Following the tragic death of the young mother Cabriales, Johnson was sentenced in June to serve 35 years in prison.

The prosecution of the case against Cordova will be handled by Chief Deputy District Attorney Courtney Johnston, who is the wife of Denver Mayor Mike Johnston.

Expressing his views, Cabriales' brother Alex stated,  “I think the judges regarding this case are making the right decision.” He added, “They’re doing their job, our communities can be safer with him in jail.

Alex, who had previously lost another sibling, Noel, in 1994 during a dispute over petting a dog when he was 15, remarked on the pain of losing everything they hold dear, saying, “We’ve just been stripped of everything we love dearly. It’s just a feeling of emptiness”
