WASHINGTON, DC: Republican Sen Josh Hawley touted his own version of the Great Replacement Theory, a far-right conspiracy theory, claiming the left would "replace Christmas with Pride Month".

The Missouri lawmaker shared the fabricated theory in his speech at the National Conservatism Conference held by Christian nationalists on Monday, July 8, in Washington DC, where he referred to the United States as "a Christian Nation", according to Raw Story.

Hawley also asserted that Christian nationalism established American democracy and posed no threat to it, the website reported, citing progressive news outlet Bucks County Beacon.

Josh Hawley slams liberals' 'replacement theory'

The Great Replacement Theory, in simple terms, means the replacement of White people by people of color, leading to the former turning into a minority in the US.

According to this theory, especially endorsed by far-right media, immigrants’ increased presence in the country will enable people of color to take control of political and economic institutions, and destroy the culture of the White population.

However, Josh Hawley added progressive beliefs, including LGBTQ acceptance, to tout a newer version of it. He argued the "left" was replacing Christian secularist ideologies with progressive beliefs like diversity, equity, and inclusion. These progressive beliefs, he said, were destroying the country.

"Instead of Christmas, they want Pride Month. Instead of prayer in schools, they venerate the trans flag. Diversity, equity and inclusion are their watchwords," Hawley told the audience.

"Their new Holy Trinity, and they expect their preach much to be obeyed. They may speak of tolerance, but they practice fundamentalism…Now this is the left's true replacement theory, their true replacement agenda to replace the Christian ideals of which this nation was founded, and to silence those Americans who dare still stand by. Sadly, the Republican Party of the last 30 years has been in no position to resist the onslaught," the congressman continued.

According to him, the left's move contradicted the "love" that fuelled Christian nationalism that was organized around Christian ideals, driven by a common purpose, and motivated by love rather than fear.

Internet blasts Josh Hawley for claiming liberals will 'replace Christmas with Pride Month'

Netizens blasted Josh Hawley over his remarks at the National Conservatism Conference on the left's move to "replace Christmas with Pride Month".

"Fear mongering and lies," a user wrote on Facebook.

Another gave a reality check to the senator, noting, "Pride Month has existed for more than 50 years. The world continued to turn. Christmas, we we celebrate it, has existed for much longer than that. Has it be replaced anytime lately?"

Meanwhile, a  third user labeled the Republican as "Another wingnut talibangelical".

A fourth response read, "Where does he come up with these ideas? He is an idiot."

"More absolute idiocy from Josh Hawley," another user chimed in.

"It has become obvious that religious organizations and so-called Christians like Hawley and Boebert are really plants to chase away anyone considering religion, because why would anyone in their right mind believe the crap they spew out of their empty little heads," one user commented below the Raw Story article.

"Get help Hawley, your paranoia exceeds normal levels and contributes to your dangerousness," someone else stated.

"How about replacing Hawley with a serious person? Someone who can solve problems," an individual opined.

"Hawley, another faux christian," read another remark.
