MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: As jury deliberations began in Donald Trump's hush money trial on Wednesday, May 29, GOP leaders came to his support condemning the 'sham' trial as a 'mockery' of the judicial system.

Republican Senators, Marco Rubio of Florida and Josh Hawley of Missouri took to social media. They said that the trial was similar to what was done to political opponents in the old Soviet Union.

Sen Josh Hawley says Donald Trump's hush money trial was a mockery from 'beginning to end'

Senator Hawley slammed the trial as a mockery of justice from beginning to end as the jury instructions were being delivered.

Quoting a tweet from legal scholar and political commentator Jonathan Turley, who is also a Fox News contributor, Hawley wrote, "This 'trial' is a mockery of the justice system from beginning to end."

Turley wrote from the courtroom, "Merchan just delivered the coup de grace instruction. He said that there is no need to agree on what occurred. They can disagree on what the crime was among the three choices. Thus, this means that they could split 4-4-4 and he will still treat them as unanimous..."

Sen Marco Rubio slams Donald Trump's hush money trial as a political execution method of the Soviet Union

Senator Rubio slammed the trial on similar grounds and compared it with the trials used in the old Soviet Union against political foes.

He questioned Judge Juan Merchan presiding over the case, like Sen Hawley.

"Judge in Trump case in NYC just told the jury they don’t have to unanimously agree on which crime was committed as long as they all at least pick one," Sen Rubio wrote in a post to X.

"And that among the crimes [they] can pick from are ones Trump WASN’T EVEN CHARGED WITH!!!" he added

"This is exactly the kind of sham trial used against political opponents of the regime in the old Soviet Union," the senator concluded.

Trump also spoke outside the Manhattan courtroom after the jury was dismissed to begin deliberations.

"Mother Teresa could not beat these charges," he said. "These charges are rigged. The whole thing is rigged!"

He also wrote on Truth Social saying, "I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE CHARGES ARE IN THIS RIGGED CASE—I AM ENTITLED TO SPECIFICITY JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE. THERE IS NO CRIME!"

Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. "IT IS RIDICULOUS, UNCONSTITUTIONAL, AND UNAMERICAN that the highly Conflicted, Radical Left Judge is not requiring a unanimous decision on the fake charges against me brought by Soros backed D.A. Alvin Bragg. A THIRD WORLD ELECTION INTERFERENCE HOAX!" Trump also wrote on Truth Social.

Internet criticizes GOP Senators Marco Rubio and Josh Hawley's comments on hush money trial

Internet was critical of the senators, especially Rubio as few slammed him for putting some information in quotes "doesn't make it more true."

"That's not what he said and you know that. Does it hurt to sell your integrity? I can't BELIEVE that I once was planning on voting for you for President. History is NOT going to be kind, pal. Country over Party," wrote one user who identified as a former Republican.

"Not quite what he said," wrote one more. "SCOTUS needs to clean up the swamp in the Judiciary of New York," wrote another.

"So what the @GOP is saying crimes aren’t crimes if trump commits them?" one user wrote. "Counterpoint: No it isn't," wrote another arguing that it wasn't a mockery.
