WASHINGTON, DC: Senate Republicans just rolled out what they’re calling hard proof of former President Joe Biden’s mental and physical decline — and they say the cover-up goes deep.

On Wednesday, June 18, Republican heavy-hitters like Texas Senator John Cornyn and Missouri’s Eric Schmitt co-chaired a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing to call out what they said was a brazen operation by the Democratic Party to conceal Biden’s condition, The Sun reported.

Rosalynn Carter, who passed away on November 19 at the age of 96, was married to former U.S. President Jimmy Carter for 77 years. In her lifetime she was an activist and writer known to be an advocate for the elderly, affordable housing, mental health, and the protection of monarch butterflies. The big question on the table was why Congress didn’t step in using its constitutional powers to remove him from office.

“There was a conspiracy to hide the president’s true condition by his family, by his staff, by the media, and many elected officials,” Cornyn declared in his opening remarks. “This was a constitutional crisis bigger than President Biden, bigger than any single election, and one that cannot be absolved by the collective apology of the press and an election where the president’s party lost.”

Joe Biden’s mental slips on display

The GOP senators presented a video compilation of Joe Biden’s more questionable public moments, starting with his now-infamous 2024 debate performance against then-candidate Donald Trump.

One clip showed Biden tripping over his words while talking about the pandemic and Medicare. “Look, if we finally beat Medicare," he said at one point.

In another snippet, the former president appeared disoriented and struggled again with his words. The video ended with the words “The Biden Cover-Up” flashing on screen.

Of course, this wasn’t the first time Biden’s mental fitness had been called into question. But back in 2020, when Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump dared to suggest Biden wasn’t all there mentally, the media snapped back.

CNN’s Jake Tapper slammed Lara after she said, “Every time he comes on stage and they turn to him, I’m like, ‘Joe, can you get it out. Let’s get the words out.’”

Tapper wasn’t having it. “I think you were mocking his stutter,” he responded. “And I think you have absolutely no standing to diagnose somebody’s cognitive decline.”

But five years later, Tapper publicly apologized to Lara just as he was promoting 'Original Sin', a book co-authored with Axios journalist Alex Thompson, which claims the White House knew all along about Biden’s cognitive state.

Republicans demand accountability

Republicans say all this talk of Biden’s decline didn’t just start with that shaky debate.

“President Biden's decline did not suddenly begin in June 2024,” Schmitt said at the hearing. “It was a persistent and obvious truth that was obvious for years to anyone who was willing to see it.”

They even put together a presidential timeline to hammer home their point. However, when it came time to show Biden’s photo, they instead dropped a picture of silhouettes with the caption, “Liberal Staffers.”

Cornyn insisted the American public deserves answers. “We need to know who was in charge during the last months of the Biden administration. Was it his wife, his chief of staff, nameless others? None of these people were elected by the American people, nor were they authorized by the Constitution and laws of the United States to carry out the duties of the president of the United States,” he said.

Schmitt echoed the concern, going so far as to declare Biden “mentally unfit to carry out the responsibilities of the most powerful office in the world.”

He added, “Given his mental incapacity, the American people deserve to know who was running the country the last four years.”

While Republicans lined up their talking points and presented multiple witnesses, including figures from the Trump, Bush, and Reagan eras, they weren’t happy about the other side of the aisle.

Schmitt slammed Democrats on the panel for boycotting the hearing, saying it was “deeply disappointing" and adding that they refused to call even one witness to testify, WDHN reported.

Democrats fire back at GOP

Of course, not everyone in Congress is buying what the GOP’s selling.

Democratic Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois blasted his Republican colleagues for spending time “armchair diagnosing” Biden instead of addressing issues that actually need oversight.

“We have so many important topics to consider, and this is a totally political undertaking by several of my colleagues,” Durbin said. “It is a waste of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s time.”
