WASHINGTON, DC: Soon after the news broke that Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, Republicans launched a barrage of attacks criticizing the choice.

Walz faced accusations from various Republicans, with Donald Trump's campaign labeling him a "West Coast wannabe" and others calling him a "liberal lapdog."

Donald Trump's campaign slams Tim Walz as 'West Coast wannabe'

Former president Donald Trump accused Tim Walz of being “obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda far and wide” in the campaign’s initial response to Kamala Harris’ vice presidential pick.

“It’s no surprise that San Francisco Liberal Kamala Harris wants West Coast wannabe Tim Walz as her running mate – Walz has spent his governorship trying to reshape Minnesota in the image of the Golden State,” the campaign wrote in a statement according to The Hill.

Rep Richard Hudson (R-NC), chairman of the House Republicans’ campaign arm, echoed the sentiment, calling Walz a “liberal lapdog” in his statement.

“San Francisco liberal Kamala Harris named her partner in crime: Tim Walz, a liberal lapdog who will do her bidding to defund the police, open the border, abolish private health insurance, and ban fracking,” he said.

“The choice is clear: Donald Trump and JD Vance will make America safe and prosperous again; Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will double down on every one of Joe Biden’s failures,” he added.

Sen Rick Scott dubs Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's ticket 'most radical in US history'

Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott described the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz ticket as the “most radical ticket in US history,” accusing them of being “hellbent” on spreading California’s policies nationwide.

“Harris/Walz is the most radical ticket in US. history,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“The Green New Deal, open borders, defunding the police, men in women’s sports, destroying the middle class. The list goes on and on. They are hellbent on bringing California socialism to every state, and we’re ready to fight like hell to stop them,” Scott added.

Florida Gov Rob DeSantis says Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's ticket is 'most left-wing in American history'

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) was also quick to denounce Kamala Harris’ decision to select Tim Walz as her running mate.

“Harris-Walz: most left-wing ticket in American history,” he wrote on X shortly after the announcement.

“Minnesota was ground zero for the BLM riots of 2020,” DeSantis added, referring to the protests following the murder of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis.

“Harris egged it on and Walz sat by and let Minneapolis burn,” the governor continued.

House Majority Whip Rep Tom Emmer (R-Minn) also criticized Harris’ choice, calling Walz an “empty suit.”

“He embodies the same disastrous economic, open-borders, and soft-on-crime policies Harris has inflicted on our country the last four years,” Emmer wrote on X.

“Walz is an empty suit who has worked to turn Minnesota into Harris’ home state of California, and solidifies this ticket’s full embrace of a radical, America-last agenda,” he added.

House GOP Chair Elise Stefanik labels Tim Walz 'failed Governor'

House GOP Chair Elise Stefanik slammed Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as a “failed Member of Congress and a failed Governor,” as top congressional Republicans label him as a “radical.”

"Walz was a failed Member of Congress and a failed Governor who supported BLM rioters who torched Minneapolis to the ground, while Kamala Harris fundraised to bail out violent criminals from prison," he stated.

Stefanik added, "Kamala Harris’ selection of Tim Walz as her running mate confirms that the Democrat Party will anoint the most radical Far Left wing ticket in history," as per CNN.

GOP Senator Lindsey Graham also noted the governor’s handling of Black Lives Matter protests in 2020.

“Not only did Governor Tim Walz sign legislation giving free college and free health care to illegal immigrants, but he sat on the sidelines and watched Minneapolis burn for four days straight. Weird and dumb," Graham said.

“Tim Walz will be a rubber stamp for Kamala’s dangerously liberal agenda,” Trump campaign's first video reaction to Walz as VP pick says.

The video, which is being billed as the first “reaction ad” from the campaign, will be part of an upcoming ad buy. It is not known when it will air.

Reactions are continuously pouring in since Harris announced Walz as her running mate on Tuesday, August 6.
