WASCO, CALIFORNIA: A man was taken into custody on Friday, March 22, according to authorities, after he stole the severed leg of a victim who had just been hit by a train and died in California.

At the nearby Amtrak station in Wasco, a city about 25 miles northwest of Bakersfield, the man pulled the limb off the tracks.

Man identified as 27-year-old Resendo Tellez

The video that was uploaded on X shows the man in the middle of the sidewalk closely examining the leg—he even seems to smell it, according to the New York Post.

He waved briefly when he saw the cameras, appearing unconcerned by the onlookers filming the disgusting scene or the responding police.

Then, as the police closed in, the man ran off with the leg, swinging it carelessly.

The man was recognized by authorities as 27-year-old Resendo Tellez, who was detained for removing evidence from the scene and for having multiple outstanding warrants, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

Before 8 in the morning, a train had run over a pedestrian at the station. Officials say the unidentified victim was killed and that their leg was amputated. An investigation is underway into the incident.

Incident leaves internet 'beyond sickened'

After the video surfaced on the internet, users were left horrified as they started reacting to it. One user wrote, "I’m beyond sickened by the whole situation! He was probably on drugs or a cǎnnibal! Either way it’s unbelievable!"

Another user dubbed Tellez a "demon" writing, "I think someone left the gates of hell open, and the demons are coming out lately."

A third commentator highlighted California's descent into lawlessness, "California's descent into lawlessness knows no bounds. This horrific incident is a stark reminder of the breakdown of societal norms. How did we get here? And more importantly, what's being done to prevent such grotesque acts in the future?"

Some users demanded the government to fix the food price, "@JoeBiden fix food prices now before this gets any worse!!"
