NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr ran into controversy after a photograph of him posing with a barbecued carcass of an animal was published in a Vanity Fair report.

The animal was identified as a dog by a veterinarian, as it had 13 pairs of ribs, including one pair of floating ribs. Kennedy Jr has vehemently denied the allegation and insisted that the carcass was that of a goat.

The magazine claimed that Kennedy Jr had shared the photograph of himself and an unidentified woman posing with the barbecued animal with a friend last year. He is seen holding the barbecue on a big metal spit and pretending to take a big bite out of the ribs.

Kennedy Jr also allegedly told the friend, who was traveling to Asia at the time, that he might enjoy a restaurant in Korea that served dog on the menu, suggesting that he had sampled dog himself.

"The photo was taken in 2010, according to the digital file’s metadata—the same year he was diagnosed with a dead tapeworm in his brain," noted the publication.

Kennedy Jr defended himself against the allegations during a recent interview on Fox News, when the interviewer asked for an explanation and wondered if the image was a "cheap fake."

"That is a real photo," stated RFK Jr. "It’s of me at a campfire in Patagonia on the Futaleufu River, eating a goat, which is what we eat down there."

"Vanity Fair said that they talked to veterinarians who assured them that it was a dog, that they made analysis, they showed it (the photograph) was (taken) in Korea of me eating a dog. That statement is emblematic of the entire article- the lack of journalistic standards throughout the article," he added.
