NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy has accused rivals Joe Biden and Donald Trump of teaming up to keep him out of the upcoming presidential debates on May 15.

According to Fox News, Biden's team sent a letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) to set up some ground rules for the debate, one of which is the exclusion of any third-party candidate.

"The debates should be one-on-one, allowing voters to compare the only two candidates with any statistical chance of prevailing in the Electoral College — and not squandering debate time on candidates with no prospect of becoming President," wrote Biden's team.

The presumptive GOP nominee has reportedly agreed to all the conditions set forth, and the first debate is set to be hosted by CNN on June 27.

RFK Jr fires back at Biden for mocking him

Taking to the social media platform shortly after the announcement of the debates, Kennedy Jr wrote, "Presidents Trump and Biden are colluding to lock America into a head-to-head match-up that 70 per cent say they do not want."

He argued that the decision went against the spirit of democracy, stating, "They are trying to exclude me from their debate because they are afraid I would win. Keeping viable candidates off the debate stage undermines democracy."

"Forty-three percent of Americans identify as independents. If Americans are ever going to escape the hammerlock of the two-party system, now is the time to do it. These are the two most unpopular candidates in living memory," continued the 70-year-old, adding, "By excluding me from the stage, Presidents Biden and Trump seek to avoid discussion of their eight years of mutual failure including deficits, wars, lockdowns, chronic disease, and inflation."

Both Biden and Trump campaign views Kennedy as a spoiler candidate, whose supporters may swing the results of the election either way in November.

Internet reminds RFK Jr that removing him was Biden's call

"That’s a lie. The decision to keep you off the debate stage came from Joe," wrote a user responding to Kennedy Jr's tweet.

"Where did Trump demand you not be allowed to debate? I saw Biden’s people say that," shared another.

"Biden and Trump are both giant cowards for this," commented a third. "It's obvious that neither of them believe that the US is a democracy. They just want power to fulfill their personal goals, instead of serving the public."

"RFK, you are not in the conversation," jibed a fourth user.

"Keep crying man," quipped a fifth.
