WASHINGTON, DC: Federal filings indicate that in May 2024, Robert F Kennedy Jr's independent presidential campaign received $2.6 million, a sum that was much less than that of the candidates from both major parties and demonstrated the campaign's dependence on wealthy contributors, The Hill reported.

Notably, federal campaign financing statistics indicate that May was the worst month for the campaign this year. Additionally, this is the first month that vice presidential candidate Nicole Shanahan, a rich lawyer from Silicon Valley, has not received a sizable contribution.

If Nicole Shanahan's substantial contributions to elevate Kennedy are excluded, May's fundraising total was almost the same as it was in April. In April, she contributed around $8 million to the campaign, which raised a total of $10.7 million.

Compared to President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump, such numbers are insignificant. At a single Virginia event on Tuesday, June 18, Biden reportedly raised $8 million, while Trump's campaign announced a $141 million haul for May, a figure bolstered by Trump’s felony conviction.

Kennedy's campaign had $6.4 million in cash in hand at the end of May, but it's not clear how much Shanahan is prepared to contribute. She can donate an unlimited amount to the campaign as a member of the ticket.

According to the report, the campaign also spent almost $6.2 million in May. The majority of the money was spent on advisory work for a group that supports ballot access. Before the election in November, Kennedy has stated on several occasions that he thinks he will be eligible to appear on ballots in all 50 states.

Kennedy's campaign provides a twist to the previously anticipated close race between Biden and Trump. It remains to be seen if the former environmental lawyer turned vaccine skeptic will deprive Biden or Trump of more votes, even if he is unlikely to win the president himself.

Moreover, his influence could be limited because he is unlikely to be eligible for the first presidential debate, which is set for next week.
