Ro Khanna says flight attendant called Dems 'heartless' for not standing for cancer survivor DJ Daniel

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: A California Democrat found himself in an unexpected debate this week when a flight attendant confronted him about his party’s reaction to a young cancer patient honored during President Donald Trump’s congressional address.
The encounter underscored growing frustrations over political divisions even when it comes to moments of unity, as reported by Fox News.
Jim Barrett, a flight attendant, politely chased me down at Chicago Airport. "Sir, I am a Democrat but the way the party behaved was embarrassing. Made us look heartless. I don't care who is up there, you stand for the boy with cancer. Be more rational & get your act together."

Rep Ro Khanna reveals Democrat criticized party’s conduct during Donald Trump's speech

Rep Ro Khanna recounted the moment on X, explaining that a flight attendant named Jim Barrett approached him at an airport in Chicago.
"Sir, I am a Democrat but the way the party behaved was embarrassing. Made us look heartless. I don't care who is up there, you stand for the boy with cancer," Khanna quoted Barrett. "Be more rational and get your act together," he added.
Khanna responded, "Few of us did stand and clap and we must be the party that still believes in kindness, decency, and trying to bring people together."
Devarjaye "DJ" Daniel, a 13-year-old battling brain cancer, was introduced by Trump during his speech and was officially sworn in as a member of the Secret Service.

Trump announced to the audience, "Joining us in the gallery tonight is a young man who truly loves our police. His name is DJ Daniel and he is 13 years old, and he has always dreamed of becoming a police officer. But in 2018, DJ was diagnosed with brain cancer. The doctors gave him five months at most to live. That was more than six years ago."

While many in the audience rose to give Daniel a standing ovation, some Democratic lawmakers remained seated during the moment. Their response did not go unnoticed.
Rep Laura Gillen, a Democrat from New York, later admitted she was disappointed by some of her colleagues. "Quite frankly, there were moments where I feel like anger at some of the actions that have happened over the past month-and-a-half prevented some of my colleagues from being able to stand up to support little DJ Daniel," she told News12 Long Island.
She added, "I stood up and applauded this little boy, who is getting over cancer, wants to be a police officer and I was disappointed that I was not joined by any of my colleagues."
