Rob Reiner's daughter Romy fled home after finding dad’s body, didn't know mom was also dead
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Romy Reiner, the daughter of actor-director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, did not know that her mother was also dead in the Los Angeles home where she found her father’s body.
The New York Times reported that Romy, 27, went to Rob and Michele’s Brentwood home on the afternoon of Sunday, December 14, after a massage therapist, who was unable to access the property, contacted her.
The deaths of Rob and his wife, Michele, have prompted an ongoing investigation by Los Angeles County authorities.
Romy Reiner learned of mother’s death later
"After her arrival at the house and seeing her father’s body, Romy reportedly ‘fled’ the home, unaware that her mother, Michele, was also dead inside," the outlet wrote.
People reported that Romy found Rob Reiner’s body on Sunday afternoon, and it was several hours later that police located her brother, Nick Reiner, and arrested him near the University of Southern California campus at about 9:15 pm that night. Nick was not at the house when the body was found.
A family insider told The New York Times that a paramedic later informed Romy that Michele had also been killed. Romy is the youngest of Rob and Michele’s three children, along with brothers Nick, 32, and Jake, 34.
Nick Reiner charged in parents’ killings
Nick was charged with two counts of first-degree m*rder, with a special circumstance allegation of using a knife, according to a press release issued by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday, December 16. If convicted, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Rob was widely credited for his influential Hollywood career, which included directing iconic films such as 'When Harry Met Sally,' 'A Few Good Men,' and 'Sleepless in Seattle.' The actor and filmmaker was also politically active and outspoken for much of his life.
News of the double death sent shockwaves through entertainment and political circles, with colleagues and fans expressing grief and condolences on social media. Many noted Reiner’s long career in film and television and his influence on both comedy and drama.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J Hochman said, “Rob Reiner was one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation. His murder and his wife of more than 35 years, Michele Singer Reiner’s murder, are shocking and tragic. We owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were taken.”
