Robert Downey Jr prefers 'Doctor Doom' over 'Iron Man' in surprise admission
ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA: Robert Downey Jr has revealed that he currently prefers playing Doctor Doom over Tony Stark's Iron Man. The actor made the admission while discussing his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 'Avengers: Doomsday', where he is playing Victor von Doom.
Downey spoke about the new role during D23 in Anaheim, California, where he joined Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell for the presentation of 'Avengers: Doomsday'. When asked to choose between Iron Man and Doctor Doom, Downey picked his new character and explained what made the experience different.
Robert Downey Jr explains why he prefers Doctor Doom
Downey said playing Doom gave him the opportunity to observe the other actors in a way he had not experienced while playing Iron Man. He also described the unusual experience of being separated from the other heroes while wearing Doom's mask and hood.
“It was really weird being the guy — everyone else is hanging out, they’re the good heroes, and I’m [in] this mask and this hood. I’m like, ‘They’re all on one side of the camera, and I guess they’re all mad at me or something.’"
Downey also spoke about getting to know Atwell better while working on the film and mentioned his history with Evans. When asked about his preference, Downey said, “I will say Doom, for now, because I got to really observe what I’ve been missing the whole time, just everybody else.”
