WASHINGTON, DC: A new political fight over the Epstein controversy erupted on Thursday, June 11, after Rep Robert Garcia accused Vice President JD Vance of playing a central role in what he described as the Trump administration’s effort to manage fallout from the case.

The California Democrat said newly reported details about White House meetings have raised serious questions about why top officials were discussing Epstein-related strategy at the highest levels of government and whether Vance was directly involved in shaping that response.

Robert Garcia puts JD Vance at center of controversy

Garcia argued that recent revelations have transformed the political landscape surrounding the Epstein issue by placing the vice president directly in the spotlight.

“For the first time in this whole Epstein investigation, we have the vice president of the United States that is now part of this massive cover-up,” Garcia said.

The House Oversight Democrat pointed to reports describing Vance's involvement in internal administration discussions regarding media coverage and political strategy connected to Epstein and his associates.

According to Garcia, the significance of the reporting is not simply that White House officials discussed the matter, but that the vice president himself allegedly played a leading role.

“It confirms for the first time that JD Vance has been a part of the strategy,” Garcia said, calling the revelations a “huge bombshell.”

Questions over Situation Room meetings

One aspect of the reporting that particularly drew Garcia’s attention was the reported use of the White House Situation Room for discussions related to the Epstein controversy.

The Situation Room is traditionally associated with national security crises, military operations and high-level intelligence briefings.

Garcia questioned why meetings connected to Epstein-related political and legal matters would be held there at all.

“Why are we having meetings in the Situation Room about Epstein strategy?” he asked.

He described the reports as extraordinary and said Congress should seek answers regarding who participated in the meetings and what decisions were made. Garcia indicated that he plans to formally press for further investigation.

Garcia argued that lawmakers need a clearer understanding of the administration’s internal handling of the Epstein controversy and the role played by senior White House officials.

The controversy stems from reporting that described discussions involving a number of senior administration officials, including White House aides, Justice Department leadership and communications staff.

According to the report, conversations focused on how the administration should respond to growing scrutiny surrounding Epstein-related records and media coverage.

Garcia seized on those details on Thursday, arguing that the reported participation of the vice president elevated the issue beyond routine political communications.
