SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS: Roger Gonzalez, 31, was arrested by the Atascosa County Sheriff's Office and San Antonio police on Saturday, December 2, for allegedly slashing a woman's throat and leaving her for dead in a field the previous day.

He supposedly beat and stabbed the victim during a brutal assault, according to a press release by the Atascosa County Sheriff's Office. Moreover, the entire incident took place while Gonzalez was reportedly wearing an ankle monitor.

What are the charges brought against Roger Gonzalez?

According to the New York Post, Roger Gonzalez was charged with first-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Rusty Prasifka, a Justice for the Peace, had initially issued a $40,000 bond on his warrant, which was later withdrawn and increased to $275,000.

Court records show Gonzalez has a criminal history out of California, with previously being convicted of drug and weapons charges out of Kern County.

At present, he is being held in custody at the Atascosa County Jail in lieu of bond. The victim, who was supposedly in a relationship with Gonzalez, according to local news outlet KENS5, is at a San Antonio hospital in serious but stable condition.

Statement of the Atascosa County Sheriff's Office

A press release shared by Sheriff David Soward read, "Atascosa County sheriff’s investigators and San Antonio Police arrested a 31-year-old San Antonio man this afternoon at a residence in San Antonio in connection with the stabbing and throat slashing of a woman found near the side of the road Friday evening."

It continued, "Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 4000 block of Eichman Road northwest of Poteet around 4.00 pm Friday, for an injured woman. Deputies located the woman and determined she had been beaten, stabbed and had her throat slashed. She was left for dead rolled up in plastic in a pasture."

Authorities further mentioned, "Investigators followed up on leads throughout Friday night and Saturday morning before filing a complaint and obtaining an arrest warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a first-degree felony."

"The suspect is identified as Roger Artega Gonzalez, of 9143 Lytle Street in San Antonio. Gonzalez was wearing an ankle monitor when the Aggravated Assault was committed," pointed out the statement.

Victim's neighbor reacts to Roger Gonzalez's arrest

Elsie Rangel, who had been the victim's neighbor for more than two decades, claimed that she had never seen Roger Gonzalez before.

"It’s a horrible crime, that he would dispose of her like an animal or something," she told KENS5, adding, "I’m relieved that he was caught, and I’m relieved that she’s still alive."
