DES MOINES, IOWA: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley have faced off in CNN’s fifth GOP debate hosted by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash in Des Moines, Iowa, and one of the many topics of discussion was “illegal immigrants.”

During the debate, DeSantis has warned people to not “trust” Haley with “illegal immigration” and has used an analogy to compare the same and said, “That’s like having the fox guard the hen house,” and the internet’s response to the same was prompt as people tuned into the final GOP debate before the Iowa caucuses starting January 15.

Ron DeSantis addresses ‘illegal immigration’

Moderator Jake Tapper addressed Donald Trump’s incomplete border wall during the debate and questioned Ron DeSantis on how “he will succeed” as opposed to Trump.

DeSantis responded, “We will build the wall, we will actually have Mexico pay for it in the way I thought Donald Trump was. We are going to charge fees on remittances that workers send to foreign countries…billions of dollars will build the wall.”

He continued, “He also promised record deportation. Donald Trump deported fewer people than Barack Obama did when he did when he was President. Biden has let in 8 million people just in 4 years, they all have to go back. We have to enforce the rule of law in this country.”

As for Nikki Haley, DeSantis remarked, “Do not trust Nikki Haley with illegal immigration, that’s like having the fox guard the hen house. She’s on tape at the Aspen Institute, she’ll say she didn’t say it…she was chastising conservatives saying it’s disrespectful to illegal aliens to say they are criminals.”

He also added, “She is weak on immigration, she’s bankrolled by people who want open borders, and she said there shouldn’t be a limit on immigration.”

Internet supports Ron DeSantis

After Ron DeSantis shared his remarks on “illegal immigration” specifically in regards to the border and his fellow GOP candidate Nikki Haley, the internet was quick to respond.

One user wrote, "Nailed it #RD24," and another said, "Well said!"

"EXACTLY," expressed one user, and another wrote, "He's right on all counts. Wake up, conservatives."

One user dubbed DeSantis, "BOSS," and another wrote, "Fact!"
