PHOENIX, ARIZONA: Arizona prosecutors have been attempting to serve Rudy Giuliani with notice of his indictment for several weeks without success.

The indictment is related to an alleged scheme to overturn the 2020 election results in Arizona.

Giuliani, along with a group of former President Donald Trump's allies, was indicted last month in Arizona, along with 11 individuals who acted as fake Republican electors from the state in the last general election.

However, Rudy Giuliani is the only defendant whom prosecutors have been unable to serve with a summons.

Why has it been difficult to serve Giuliani?

Per CNN, a summons is a formal notice that Giuliani has been criminally charged and must appear before a judge on May 21.

According to Richie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Arizona attorney general's office, a team of prosecutors and investigators working for Arizona Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes has made multiple attempts to locate Rudy Giuliani, but have been unsuccessful so far.

Giuliani, according to multiple sources who spoke to the aforementioned outlet, is currently staying at his residence in Palm Beach, Florida.

Two individuals familiar with Giuliani's whereabouts stated that the former New York City mayor has been shuttling between Palm Beach and New York City.

In New York, he has been dividing his time between working on a planned appeal of the $148 million defamation judgment against him, which a district judge rejected on Tuesday, and overseeing the sale of his $5.7 million apartment.

Prosecutors have been attempting to serve him at his New York City apartment for weeks.

According to Taylor, two agents from the attorney general's office traveled to New York City intending to personally deliver the notice to Giuliani the day after the state-level grand jury issued its indictment.

The agents presumed Giuliani would be in his New York City apartment because he had recently live-streamed from there.

They verified this by matching the setting of the live stream with images of the interior of the residence from an old real estate listing.

However, upon reaching the building, the front desk personnel informed the agents that they were not authorized to accept service of the documents.

Taylor mentioned that the individual did not contest Giuliani's residency there.

“We were not granted access,” Taylor claimed.

Even though Donald Trump is not one of the individuals charged in Arizona, the indictment's details indicate that he is "Unindicted Coconspirator 1."

“In Arizona, and the United States, the people elected Joseph Biden as President on November 3, 2020,” the indictment reads. “Unwilling to accept this fact, Defendants and unindicted coconspirators schemed to prevent the lawful transfer of the presidency to keep Unindicted Coconspirator 1 in office against the will of Arizona’s voters.”

Mark Meadows, former White House chief of staff for Trump, as well as his close adviser Boris Epshteyn, Christina Bobb, the top lawyer for the Republican National Committee's "election integrity" and former Trump campaign aide Mike Roman, have been charged in Arizona alongside Giuliani.

All of the defendants, except for Rudy Giuliani, have been served thus far.
