Ryan Routh says he 'tried' his 'best' to assassinate Donald Trump in new letter revealed by DOJ
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: The Justice Department on Monday, September 23, revealed that Donald Trump's suspected assassin, Ryan Wesley Routh, had penned a disturbing letter months before he was arrested.
The DOJ had acquired the letter from a witness who had received it in a box dropped by Routh at his home, months before the attempted assassination.
The box was opened upon learning that Routh was a suspect in the attack, Fox News reported.
Ryan Wesley Routh predicted his attempt at Donald Trump would fail
The box held numerous handwritten letters, ammunition, a metal pipe, miscellaneous building materials, tools, and four phones.
One letter, addressed to "The World" described, “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you."
"I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job," the letter read according to the court filing.

Routh, 58, faces charges for two firearm offenses, following his arrest on September 15 after allegedly trying to escape from the Trump International Golf Course. He may face more severe charges as the investigation continues.
Ryan Wesley Routh wrote Donald Trump is 'unfit' for presidency
Ryan Wesley Routh's letter asserted that people worldwide, from the youngest to the oldest, recognize that Donald Trump is unsuitable for any role, especially that of a president.
"Everyone across the globe from the youngest to the oldest know that Trump is unfit to be anything, much less a US president," the letter read.
Routh, who is due in court on Monday, further wrote, "US presidents must at bare minimum embody the moral fabric that is America, and be kind, caring and selfless and always stand for humanity. Trump fails to understand any of that."
US Secret Service agent shot at an individual, later identified as Routh, upon observing a rifle popping from the tree line at the golf course on September 15, where the former president was playing golf.
Routh was spotted by a witness running away from the scene and driving off. Cell phone data reveals he may have been lying in wait for nearly 12 hours at the golf course.
Ryan Wesley Routh repeatedly visited golf course area and Mar-a-Lago estate
Prosecutors say Ryan Wesley Routh was present near Donald Trump's golf course and the ex-president's Mar-a-Lago estate “multiple days and times," between August 18 and September 15.
One of the six cell phones recovered from his car contained a Google search "of how to travel from Palm Beach County to Mexico."
Routh also had a handwritten list of Trump's appearance dates and venues in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election.
The agents also discovered 12 pairs of gloves, a Hawaii driver's license, and a passport in the defendant's name, according to the filling.
Routh's most recent experience included a stint in Ukraine, where he unsuccessfully attempted to be recruited to fight against Russia, as well as time in Hawaii working in construction.
Ryan Wesley Routh calls voting for Donald Trump in 2016 'terrible mistake'
Ryan Wesley Routh, who frequently discussed politics and global events, had said online that he had voted for Donald Trump in 2016 but the president had become a disappointment.
“I will be glad when you gone," Routh wrote in the letter, per CNN.
In a self-published book in 2013, Routh said he "must take part of the blame for the that we elected for our next president that ended up being brainless, but I am man enough to say that I misjudged and made a terrible mistake."
In a self-published book, Routh also addressed to the country of Iran that, "You are free to assassinate Trump as well as me for that error in judgment and the dismantling of the deal," DOJ documents said.
