LOS, ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Seth Meyers took a humorous jab at Robert F Kennedy Jr for attempting to defend Donald Trump’s recent debate performance, particularly his meltdown over Haitian immigrants eating pets in Ohio.

Meyers suggested that Kennedy Jr might not be the best choice to defend Trump's claims, given his own colorful history with dead animals.

During the presidential debate with Democratic nominee Kamala Harris on September 10, Trump had said, "In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats … they’re eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is what’s happening in our country, and it’s a shame."

Seth Meyers pokes fun of RFK Jr's defense of Donald Trump's debate performance

During his show 'Late Night With Seth Meyers' on Thursday, September 12, Seth Meyers delved into the Republican damage control efforts following Donald Trump’s contentious debate with Kamala Harris on September 10.

Robert F Kennedy Jr, among others, attempted to spin Trump’s less-than-stellar performance in a favorable light.

Speaking on Fox News, Kennedy Jr conceded that Harris “clearly won the debate in terms of her delivery, her polish, her organization, and her preparations,” but argued that Trump excelled in “governance".

Meyers played a clip of Kennedy Jr's comments and then quipped, “Is RFK Jr really who the Trump campaign wants to elevate right now during a national conversation about eating unusual animals?”

He added, “The guy was accused of eating a dog, said it was a goat, picked up a dead bear off the side of the road—which he later dumped in Central Park—because he wanted to eat it.”

Seth Meyers brings up RFK Jr’s controversial history with dead animals

Robert F Kennedy Jr faced backlash over several unsettling incidents involving dead animals.

In 2023, he sent a photo of himself and a woman posing with what appeared to be barbecued dog meat, sparking questions about whether he had eaten dog. He later claimed that the grilled animal was not a dog but a goat he enjoyed eating on a trip to Chile.

“It’s me in a campfire in Patagonia on the Futaleufu River eating a goat, which is what we eat down there,” he told Fox News.

Additionally, Kennedy recently confessed to dumping the corpse of a bear cub in Central Park a decade ago. This mystery had made headlines in 2014.

Claiming to have seen a car hit and kill the cub outside New York City, Kennedy clarified that he wanted to skin the cub and keep its meat in his refrigerator but ultimately ended up discarding it.

“Can you imagine the inside of RFK Jr’s fridge?” Meyers joked. “Where does he keep the bear meat? Next to the oat milk and the pickled pelican beaks?”

Meyers continued his satire by commenting on Kennedy Jr's attempts to defend Trump, noting that even he admitted Harris had a superior debate performance.

Meyers also referenced a resurfaced 2012 interview where Kenendy Jr's daughter claimed that her father once beheaded a dead whale using a chainsaw and strapped its head to the family’s minivan for a five-hour drive.

The children had to put plastic bags over their heads to shield themselves from the “whale juice” seeping into the windows.

Seth Meyers mocks Republican spin on Donald Trump’s debate performance

Seth Meyers' takedown of Robert F Kennedy Jr—who was running as an independent presidential candidate before suspending his campaign and endorsing Donald Trump—comes as many Republicans have conceded that Trump’s debate performance was a “disaster".

Despite some efforts to push a more positive narrative, such as former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s comparison of the debate to a wedding, Meyers seized on this, saying with wide eyes: “Your argument is, 'that was better than normal'?”

He added, “No, we definitely noticed. We all saw it. Did Republicans think it was only on C-SPAN and get confused?”

Mockingly, Meyers said, “Well probably only a few people saw it right. Oh what’s that? It was also on ABC? Alright well that’s just one major network. And NBC? And CBS? And MSNBC? And CNN? And Fox? Oh no no who else was carrying this debate? Lifetime? QVC? The debate fails YouTube channel?”

He even joked, “Even Nickelodeon had a debate feed where every time Trump screamed about eating dogs, he got slimed.”

The ABC News debate, the first between the two presidential candidates, drew an estimated 67 million viewers on Tuesday night.
