NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: A Tennessee teacher has been detained for allegedly threatening to shoot a coworker at the preschool where she was employed.

Witnesses claimed Cowart threatened to "retrieve a firearm and made threats against another teacher and the school after an argument". This prompted the Metro Nashville Police Department to take Cowart into custody.

School employees claimed that Cowart, 29, kept a gun "on her" and threatened to "shoot up" the preschool, according to NBC News affiliate WSMV.

According to WSMV, another teacher said she heard Cowart say, "When I start shooting, you better run."

This led to the preschool being placed under lockdown. One pistol was found in Cowart's purse, and another was found in the driver's side door of her car, according to the police.

Cowart was released from jail the same evening after posting a $37,000 bond.

Internet weighs in on bill requiring teachers to be armed in Tennessee

As soon as the news surfaced online, social media users started reacting to it. Notably, Tennessee lawmakers are considering a controversial bill that would allow some teachers to go armed in classrooms. People online weighed in on this bill in the wake of the preschool incident.

A user wrote questioning, "Didn’t TN recently pass a bill requiring teachers to be armed? Or was that a different red state? It’s hard to keep track of all the whack-a-doodleness anymore. Anyway, arming teachers may nothing be such a good idea after all."

Another user added, "THIS! And here we have the GOP sponsored Bill to arm teachers in classrooms without parental knowledge of that teacher responsible for their child AND the school has no liability if any harm happens to their child. Make this make sense."

The third user questioned, "Didn’t they say that teachers carrying guns would make everyone safer?"

"Arm the teachers, they said," fourth person concluded.
