DENVER, COLORADO: A Democrat hoping to challenge Lauren Boebert in Colorado's 4th District has made headlines with a provocative campaign video.

John Padora, one of three Democratic candidates vying for the nomination, released a video filmed in the same seat from which Boebert was ejected during a September 2023 performance of Beetlejuice at Denver's Buell Theater. The ad seeks to highlight Boebert's conduct and question her suitability as a congressional representative.

John Padora seizes on Lauren Boebert’s 'Beetlejuice' controversy

In September 2023, Lauren Boebert faced widespread criticism after being removed from a performance of Beetlejuice for disruptive behavior, including vaping and making excessive noise. The incident escalated when surveillance footage showed Boebert and her date engaging in inappropriate physical contact during the performance.

Initially, Boebert defended her actions on social media, claiming she was merely "laughing and singing too loud" and denying she was vaping. However, once the footage was made public, Boebert issued an apology, admitting her behavior "fell short of my values."

John Padora seized on this controversy to launch an attack against Boebert. In his campaign video, Padora is seen sitting in the same theater seat where Boebert was caught misbehaving. He uses this setting to draw a parallel between her removal from the theater and his efforts to remove her from Congress.

"I'm sitting in the very same seat that Lauren Boebert got kicked out of, the same way she got kicked out of Colorado's 3rd Congressional District," Padora says in the video. "Now she's picked up her bags and fled to eastern Colorado to run in the Fourth Congressional District. That's a race I've been running since May of 2023."

"Boebert is an opportunistic carpetbagger, and we deserve real leadership here in Colorado 4th," Padora added. "Please, if you can chip in $5, $10 today to make sure that we have the resources we need to win this race."

Lauren Boebert mocked on social media

Padora’s ad quickly became a talking point on social media, with many critics of Boebert expressing their approval.

"John Padora isn't holding back, and I'm loving it," one user commented on X.

"Bravo.. yes.. send BOBO packing," another wrote.

"It doesn't take much to humiliate a 3x GED-failed woman who touts the Ten Commandments and breaks 11 of them," someone else quipped.

"She is the poster child for bad behavior," read another comment.

"Colorado deserves better than Lauren Boebert. She’s an embarrassment," another critic insisted.

Political ramifications of Lauren Boebert's actions

Boebert's controversial theater incident has continued to haunt her. In May, she was met with chants of "Beetlejuice" during a visit to George Washington University amid pro-Gaza protests.

The incident was also referenced by Rep Lisa McClain (R-Mich) during a speech at the Washington Press Club Foundation’s annual Congressional Dinner, specifically calling out Boebert. “I know it’s date night for some of you, but no inappropriate touching. That includes you, Lauren Boebert. No vaping, either," McClain quipped.

During a recent Republican debate, Boebert was questioned about the incident, to which she responded that she had "owned up to my night out in Denver" and had embarked on a "public apology tour." However, she asserted, "I'm not going to continue to live life in shame and be beat up by this."

Despite the ridicule and accusations of carpetbagging, Boebert remains a formidable candidate in the upcoming GOP primary for the 4th District. Polls indicate that she is the favorite to secure the Republican nomination.

A Kaplan Strategies survey of 343 Colorado Republicans found Boebert leading with 40 percent, significantly ahead of her closest rival, business owner Peter Yu, who garnered only 5 percent.

Padora faces his competition within the Democratic primary, running against Trisha Calvarese and Ike McCorkle. The primary races for both parties are scheduled for June 25, Newsweek reported.
