PHOENIX, ARIZONA: On Friday, Democratic Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs issued a response to the statement made by former President Donald Trump regarding Arizona's near-total abortion ban.

During an interview on ‘The View,’ co-host Ana Navarro asked for Hobbs' reaction to Trump's claim that he was responsible for the overturning of Roe v Wade, referring to the landmark 2022 United States Supreme Court decision that ended the constitutional right to abortion.

What did Governor Katie Hobbs say regarding Donald Trump’s claims?

The 77-year-old MAGA strongman stated that Arizona's Supreme Court had "gone too far" in upholding a near-total abortion ban from 1864, per The Recount.

Hobbs fired back, stating, “Well, look, I am pretty tired of cleaning up Donald Trump's messes in Arizona. This is really nothing, but political opportunism coming from these folks, who wanted this. This is what they wanted when they worked to overturn Roe v Wade.”

Governor Katie Hobbs also expressed criticism towards Kari Lake, former GOP gubernatorial candidate and current Senate candidate, for her conflicting stance on the 1864 abortion ban.

Lake initially commended the Civil War era ban but later altered her position when the Grand Canyon State Supreme Court upheld the law.

The Democrat governor has implied that Republican politicians may be changing their views on abortion due to the unpopularity of the stringent Arizona law among voters.

“Now that they see it as a political albatross. They're all of a sudden trying to run away from it. They can't do that. They own this,” Hobbs remarked.

“The Dobbs decision paved the way for the Arizona Supreme Court to make this devastating ruling and [Republicans] own it,” she added.
