BATON ROGUE, LOUISIANA: Former President Donald Trump expressed his discontent with Senator Bill Cassidy on Monday, referring to the Louisiana Republican as "one of the worst senators in the United States Senate."

According to the New York Post, Trump had previously endorsed Cassidy during his 2020 re-election campaign.

However, the 77-year-old presumptive GOP nominee became irate over the senator's 2021 vote to convict him during his impeachment trial for his involvement in the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol.

What did Trump say about Sen. Cassidy on Monday?

Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social, “One of the worst Senators in the United States Senate is, without question, Bill Cassidy, A TOTAL FLAKE, Republican though he may be.”

Cassidy was among the seven Senate Republicans who cast their votes in favor of convicting Trump guilty of inciting an insurrection.

The MAGA strongman continued, “He campaigned in the Great State of Louisiana on TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, and was absolutely thrilled when he was able to get my very important Endorsement. His advertisements were all about “TRUMP,” and our relationship, which basically didn’t exist in that I did not know him well. In any event, he easily won Re-Election.”

“Cassidy is a total ‘stiff,’ but Louisiana didn’t need him to protect them, because they had ME, 100%!” the former POTUS remarked. “Nevertheless, when the Democrats’ Impeachment Hoax started, this Lamebrain Senator actually voted against me.”

“He thought it was so ‘cool,’ until he got home, and was literally pelted with everything that could be used for such an inglorious happening, especially words, with lots of foul language thrown in,” Trump added.

The embattled real estate mogul contended that he’s “been too busy beating up the Communists, Fascists, and Lunatics who have weaponized our Government against Crooked Joe Biden’s Political Opponent, ME, to think much” about Senator Cassidy, even though he has previously chided the Louisiana Republican.

Trump asserted that Cassidy considered a Bayou State gubernatorial candidacy last year, but decided against it after the former President endorsed Republican Jeff Landry for that role.

“Bill Cassidy is now shunned in his own State as a disloyal lightweight, and it’s a beautiful thing to watch,” Trump said.

While it was unclear what prompted Trump's recent rant against Cassidy, the former president has attacked the senator on at least one previous occasion since leaving the White House.

In a statement released in October 2021, Trump referred to Cassidy as "Wacky Bill" and argued that he was "a totally ineffective Senator" who "could not even be elected dog catcher today."

Sen Cassidy said last year that President Joe Biden and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis were the only candidates who could win the 2024 White House race, adding that Trump “cannot win” the presidential election.

DeSantis withdrew from the Republican presidential primary contest earlier this year, and several polls show Trump ahead of incumbent President Biden in a rematch of the 2020 general election.

More recently, Sen Cassidy called Trump's remarks against illegal immigrants "dehumanizing" during an interview with NBC's ‘Meet the Press’ in March.

“That’s why again, many people continue to have reservations,” Sen Cassidy argued.

“And I say the best thing going for Donald Trump running for president is that he’s running against Joe Biden, about whom many people also have reservations. And frankly, that’s why people are considering third parties. So it’s a sorry state of affairs.”

Cassidy is among 15 Republican senators who have refused to endorse Donald Trump for President of the United States in 2024.

Internet scorches Donald Trump for raging against GOP Senator Bill Cassidy

People on X skewered the former president for expressing his indignation against the Louisiana Republican who refused to fall in line in order to help him assume overarching power within the GOP.

One X user remarked: "Nobody needs you to protect them. You’re awful."

Another user wrote: "Notice how he doesn’t mention anything to do with policy, he’s just upset that someone wasn’t “loyal” enough to him after he tried to overthrow the election".

Another user quipped: "Bro really out here admitting that he endorses people he knows nothing about and only if they say nice things about him".

One user said: "Donald Trump is disgusting. Some one get him off social media. Lock him up or shut him up."

Another X user claimed: "One of the only principled GOP senators. Of course Trump smears him, as he does to anyone with a conscience and a spine."

Finally, this user tweeted: "He sounds like a patriot. You do not."
