LOS ANGELES, CA: Dan Greaney, the Emmy-nominated television writer renowned for scripting the iconic March 2000 episode “Bart to the Future” of The Simpsons, which famously predicted a Donald Trump presidency more than a decade before it occurred, has officially launched a surprise outsider campaign for the 2028 presidency.

The high-profile announcement effectively converts one of the internet's most enduring, viral cultural myths into an active, real-world bid for the Oval Office.

Greaney, a Harvard-educated comedy writer and licensed attorney, initiated his campaign via a highly unconventional video broadcast.

Initially donning a theatrical, gray-bearded prophet costume, Greaney methodically stripped away the robes to reveal a standard business suit, declaring, "Screw it, I can be a politician."

The newly declared candidate announced he is running to dismantle entrenched corporate and legislative networks, asserting that careerists and cowards in both major parties have systematically turned their backs on everyday citizens to protect their own security.

Outsider crafts alternative progressive platform

Greaney is framing his early 2028 candidacy as a direct attempt to bridge deep national divisions, advocating for an agenda patterned after legacy leaders like Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.

Despite entering the race as an occasional Republican voter, his platform stands far apart from modern party alignments.

The writer is actively running on a progressive platform, championing the implementation of universal healthcare and the structural environmental mandates of the Green New Deal.

Greaney stated that while his original animated script was intended as an over-the-top parody of American culture going insane, the fictional timeline has transformed into a grim warning that he must now personally step forward to correct.

Early campaign builds immediate infrastructure

The unexpected announcement gives Greaney an early operational advantage over major establishment figures who are still evaluating the 2028 primary landscape.

On the Republican side, heavyweights such as Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have generated significant nomination speculation, while Democrats are weighing future bids from former Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Gavin Newsom.

By launching his grassroots organization ahead of these political heavyweights, the Hollywood veteran expects to secure significant media exposure to test whether his predictive notoriety can translate into sustained populist momentum.

Prophetic history drives internet speculation

The campaign immediately taps into a vast ecosystem of online fascination surrounding the show’s long history of animated foresight.

Digital communities have spent decades archiving the series' eerie track record, noting how past scripts correctly anticipated major corporate acquisitions and technological milestones years before their real-world completion.

Greaney concluded his unconventional launch video by leaning directly into his internet reputation, joking that while ordinary voters must wait to see how the volatile 2028 primary plays out, he technically already knows how the final vote turns out.
