3 wild predictions from ‘The Simpsons’ that could become reality in 2025

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'The Simpsons' is the longest-running animated television series and the longest-running scripted TV show in the history of the United States, which first aired in 1989. The show follows the life of the Simpson family living in Springfield. Homer and Marge, and their three children Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are the main characters.

Created by cartoonist Matt Groening for Fox, the show has been known to "predict" global world events during its ongoing run. Back in 2000, in the Season 11 episode titled 'Bart to the Future', Donald Trump was referred to as the President, which eerily became reality in 2016.

In the following years, fans have combed through the episodes to find references to other global news and found foreshadowing of occurrences like the "Hwak Tuah girl", the cost of living crisis in the United Kingdom, and the 2024 general election map of the United States.

With that in mind, as Trump is set to be reinstated in the White House later in January, HubPages listed three scenarios from 'The Simpsons' that have a chance of turning very real throughout 2025.

1. Averting apocalypse

In the classic episode titled 'Thank God, It's Doomsday', Homer Simpson finds himself watching a movie about the biblical tale of the Rapture with Lisa and Bart after an adventurous day at the mall.

However, Homer gets terribly scared and starts believing the story to be real. He begins proclaiming that the "stars are falling from the sky" and "the end is near." He is declared an outcast when nothing happens but later realizes that he had simply got the date wrong.

The world does end and Homer pleads with God to save his family. Finally, God gives in and Homer wakes up from his "dream" to be reunited with his loved ones.

While far-fetched, a global apocalypse may very well be 'The Simpsons' prediction for 2025 that no one saw coming.

2. World War 3

From the war in Ukraine to the human rights crisis in the Middle East, the world is teetering on the precipice of a larger global conflict at the end of 2024.

Thus, many fans consider the references to a potential World War 3 in multiple episodes of 'The Simpsons' probable foreshadowing of the upcoming events in 2025.

In a short from 1987, Homer appears convinced that WW3 has started and insists the family rush to a homemade shelter in the garden.

Another episode titled 'Lisa's Wedding' set in the future shows Lisa's British fiance, Hugh Parkfield, visiting Moe's Tavern with Homer and Bart.

When Moe tells Hugh that they saved them in WW2, Hugh retorts, "Well, we saved your a**e in WW3."

3. Zombie apocalypse

In the 2009 episode titled 'Treehouse of Horror XX', the fictional world gets infected by a virus that transforms humans into zombies.

Bart seems to be the only character immune to the virus, and in a crazy twist, residents of Springfield start believing that eating him could make them immune as well.

The episode concludes with Bart "vaccinating" the population by contaminating their food before they eat it.

While the story brings up memories of the COVID-29 pandemic, things can very well take a turn for the worse in 2025, with vaccine skeptics gaining office in the upcoming Trump administration.
