Small plane crash near Nashville highway claims lives of 5 passengers, Internet calls it 'horrible'
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: Recently, there was an incident where a small plane crashed near a Nashville highway, and unfortunately, all five people on board lost their lives. This news deeply affected many social media users, who expressed their sorrow online.
Plane accidents have been particularly distressing lately. In Florida, a private jet exploded, resulting in the tragic deaths of both pilots. The terrifying event was recorded on video, showing three people managing to escape from the wreckage.
Similarly, a routine training flight ended tragically when a military helicopter carrying five US Marines crashed in a remote area of California, resulting in the loss of all lives on board.
Small plane crash claims lives of 5 passengers
According to The New York Post, a video has been circulating online showing a small single-engine airplane crashing near a Nashville highway, resulting in the deaths of all five people on board.
Just before the crash, the pilot sent a troubling message. The plane, with three children and two adults on board, went down in flames as it was nearing John C Tune Airport. It had taken off from Mount Sterling, Kentucky, and the pilot radioed for help around 7:40 p.m. on Monday.
The NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) is still working to confirm the identities of the victims.
The NTSB also stated that the pilot had flown over the Nashville airport before reporting engine failure. Aaron McCarter, an NTSB Air Safety Investigator, said, "For reasons unknown, the aircraft descended and approached John C Tune airport and passed overhead at 2,500 feet The pilot reported that he was going to pass over the airport at 2,500 feet. Very quickly thereafter, the pilot reported … a complete loss of engine power."
Cockpit audio from LiveATC.net, as reported by The New York Post, captured the pilot "declaring an emergency" and stating, "My engine shut down. My engine turned off. I’m at 1,600 (feet)… I’m going to be landing, I don’t know where."
The controller instructed the pilot to continue, stating, “Straight in runway 2, straight in runway 2 at John Tune. Do you have the airport in sight?… you’re clear to land," but the pilot responded, “I’m too far away, I won’t make it.”
The controller suggested, "OK, uhhhh. See if you can glide in there, sir. Glide in, they’re clearing the runway for you," but the plane ultimately crashed along Interstate 40 in West Nashville, about 3 miles from the airport.
The identities of the five victims haven't been confirmed yet. Metro Nashville Police spokesperson Aaron informed the media that the plane was traveling from north to south when it crashed in a grassy area beside the interstate, just behind a Costco on Charlotte Pike.
5 persons on board the airplane perished in the crash. The FAA is on scene. The NTSB will arrive later today.

Thankfully, the aircraft didn't collide with any buildings or vehicles, coming down roughly 3 miles from the general aviation airport.
The Tennessean mentioned that the plane was from Canada and Kendra Loney, a spokesperson for the Nashville Fire Department, described the crash as "catastrophic," noting that witnesses reported the plane exploded upon impact.
Aaron, the Nashville police spokesperson, commented, "According to some witness information, their plane was obviously in distress as it was coming over the interstate, right before it hit the ground. I think he was having significant issues keeping the aircraft under control."
Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell expressed condolences, stating, "Our thoughts go out to the loved ones of all those on board the single-engine aircraft that crashed near Interstate 40 this evening."
