WASHINGTON, DC: House Speaker Mike Johnson, a self-proclaimed Christian nationalist, has declined to comment on the allegations at the heart of Donald Trump’s New York criminal trial.

These allegations suggest that Trump paid “hush money” to adult film actress Stormy Daniels via his long-term "fixer" Michael Cohen.

'I am not going to comment on that': Mike Johnson's refusal to comment on Donald Trump's allegations

During a recent press conference, Johnson faced a pointed question from a CNN Journalist about the hush money case.

While he has been vocal about his disdain for the legal proceedings, the underlying issue of an alleged extramarital affair and payments remains under focus.

“You’ve been very clear about your disdain for the hush money case, but what about the underlying alleged conduct of paying off a porn star to keep this extramarital affair allegedly quiet?” CNN’s Manu Raju asked Johnson.

Johnson, who has previously stated, “I am a Bible-believing Christian,” according to Raw Story, refused to comment on the indicted ex-president’s alleged infidelity.

He, however, stated, “I am not going to comment on that.”

Mike Johnson calls Donald Trump's hush money trial to be 'patently absurd'

Trump is charged with 34 felony charges brought by the State of New York, which include falsification of business records with the intent to cover up the hush money payments to unlawfully influence the 2016 presidential election.

Instead, Johnson claimed that District Attorney Alvin Bragg is “going after” Trump “for who he is.”

He also echoed a Trump talking point, falsely claiming that “the case is patently absurd, you’ve had every legal analyst across the board acknowledge as much.”

“He is soon to be an official nominee for the Republican Party for President of the United States," he added.

"They’ve had him tied for weeks at the courthouse when he should be out. Have the ability to speak freely and campaign and be around the country," Johnson stated.

Internet dubs Mike Johnson as 'opportunist'

Netizens reacted to Johnson’s refusal to answer the Trump-Daniels question.

One user wrote, “MK is good at questions,” while another commented, “Every legal analyst? lol He’s talking about Fox’s box wine legal analyst.”

“Please keep asking how this squares with his religious beliefs," another user urged.

One user labeled Johnson a “Hypocritical opportunistic COWARD,” and another commented, “Nobody cares if tRumpleorangeskin had an affair with a porn star - not even Melania. This case is about #ElectionFraud. The payment was to keep her quiet so #AmericanVoters would not find out.”

One user defended Trump, stating, “Cohen paid her. Not Trump. Facts matter,” while another questioned, “Didn’t he cheat on his wife with the playboy bunny and then cheat on both of them simultaneously with the porn star?”

One user criticized Johnson, stating, “Hypocritical - a lack of integrity. Integrity means being honest, real and authentic (it is the opposite of hypocrisy).” Another user described Johnson as a “spineless bootlicker.”

26 women have accused Trump of sexual misconduct, spanning from the 1970s to 2016. Stormy Daniels, an adult film star, alleged a sexual encounter with Trump in July 2006, just four months after Melania gave birth to their son, Barron.

Karen McDougal, a Playboy model, claimed an affair with Trump even closer to Barron’s birth in June 2006. Trump denies all these allegations.
