Vegas man facing death for killing grandmother, her BF and welfare officer who came to check on them
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Spencer McDonald, accused of killing three people including his grandmother, is facing the death penalty.
As per Fox 5 Las Vegas news, prosecutors will now seek the death penalty for McDonald when his case goes to trial in September.
McDonald is accused in the brutal triple slaying of his grandmother, her boyfriend and a maintenance worker at a Las Vegas apartment complex.
Who were the victims?
Spencer McDonald, 30, has been charged with three counts of open murder and one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
McDonald was arrested in June 2023 after he allegedly killed 80-year-old Dina Vail and her partner, 43-year-old Andrew Graden, and lived with the bodies for several days, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
KVVU-TV reports that the victims either died from blunt force injuries or were fatally stabbed.
McDonald then allegedly killed 45-year-old maintenance worker Christopher Brassard when he went to conduct a welfare check on Vail.
Brassard's friend Jason Hendershaw wrote on his friend’s GoFundMe page, "I am asking for your help to offset these costs and allow Chris’s family to concentrate on what matters most right now – mourning and memorializing him."
Prosecutors now seek death penalty
Prosecutors announced on Wednesday, January 10, that they intend to pursue McDonald's execution.
Earlier, during a July 13, 2023 grand jury hearing, a detective testified against McDonald, claiming that he put the victims “out of their misery” by killing them, but did not elaborate, per the Review-Journal.
As per The Messenger, he allegedly planned to dispose of the bodies, “but then he realized that was probably going to be a little bit more work than he planned on,” the detective said.
