WASHINGTON, DC: A section of the main stage built for President Donald Trump’s upcoming Freedom 250 celebration gave way Thursday, July 2, during a rehearsal session, sending part of the overhead structure crashing onto the stage below.

The incident took place ahead of the July 4 festivities, with performers managing to move out of the way before the debris landed. No injuries were reported.

Videos shared on social media showed dancers rehearsing a routine when the overhead piece suddenly detached, forcing them to stop and move to safety.

According to footage circulating online and shared by @AaronParnas on X, the dancers narrowly avoided the falling structure as it hit the stage.

No one was hurt, but the incident has raised fresh questions about preparations for the event, which is expected to be the centerpiece of Trump's Independence Day celebrations.

Organizers have not issued an official statement explaining what caused the structure to fall or whether additional safety inspections will be carried out before the main event.

The Freedom 250 celebration, officially known as the Great American State Fair, is being held on the National Mall as part of the Trump administration's semiquincentennial celebrations.

The event has faced logistical challenges ahead of July 4

The stage incident comes after the fair experienced several organizational hurdles in recent weeks.

Attendees have reported delayed infrastructure, long security lines, and unfinished sections across parts of the National Mall.

Photos and videos from the venue have also shown lightly attended areas during the opening days of the event.

The fair opened on June 24 and features attractions including a 110-foot Ferris wheel and a scaled-down replica of a triumphal arch.

However, visitors have also described seeing half-built plywood structures and large open spaces across the grounds.

Programming has also changed in recent days.

Musical acts, including Martina McBride and The Commodores, withdrew from scheduled appearances after saying they had not been informed about the event's political tone.

Several states led by Democratic governors also chose not to participate in the state pavilion displays, citing cost concerns and the event's partisan nature.

Officials look ahead to Donald Trump’s July 4 address

As preparations continue, attention is turning to Trump's keynote address, which he has promoted as the centerpiece of the celebration alongside military flyovers, fireworks, and live performances.

According to CNN, Trump was unhappy after seeing aerial photographs from the opening event that showed sparse attendance.

White House staff later removed those aerial images from social media, while Trump wrote on Truth Social that the event was "packed to the brim" with "at least 45,000 people."

News estimates, however, placed attendance significantly below that figure.

Officials are now planning to distribute tickets for the viewing area directly in front of the stage in an effort to ensure those sections appear full during Trump's speech.

At the same time, they privately acknowledge that ticket holders may still choose not to attend, particularly with temperatures in Washington forecast to approach 100 degrees and thunderstorms also possible on Saturday.
