WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Ted Lieu fired back at Vice President JD Vance, poking fun at Vance’s claim that high gas prices are former President Joe Biden’s fault. Lieu jokingly suggested Vance tour swing districts to spread the message and see just how politically shaky it really is. The comments come after Vance, speaking at a March 13 event in North Carolina, blamed Biden for the country’s current economic troubles.

"Dear ⁦@WhiteHouse ⁩: Please send JD Vance to every single House swing district where he can tell voters that soaring gas prices are the fault of Biden," Ted Lieu wrote on X, sharing a post that read, "Breaking: JD Vance blames soaring gas prices on Joe Biden."

On Friday, March 13 in North Carolina, JD Vance claimed that President Donald Trump’s policies are putting more money into consumers’ pockets. “After the first year of President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans’ leadership, we are rebuilding the American dream. And we are taking back this country for the people of this state,” he said.

Standing in front of banners reading “Lower Prices, Bigger Paychecks,” Vance said Trump’s policies would cut taxes for working families and boost tax refunds. He also criticized former President Joe Biden’s policies, blaming them for high inflation. “Joe Biden put us in a big hole,” Vance said. “So to the Democrats who talk about affordability a lot of the time, why don't you look yourselves in the mirror?”

This isn’t the first time JD Vance has blamed former President Joe Biden for economic problems. In December 2025, Vance visited the Lehigh Valley to give a speech about the economy. He said Trump is encouraging companies to invest in US jobs by penalizing them for doing work overseas. Without giving exact details, Vance claimed Pennsylvania is seeing “$100 billion of new investment.”

Vance said, “So if you look at every single affordability crisis that we talk about in the United States of America today, it’s because we inherited a nightmare of an economy from Joe Biden,” referring to the Democratic administration between Trump’s terms as the 45th and 47th president.

Earlier in January 2026, speaking near the Maumee River, Vance said, “You don't turn the Titanic around overnight. It takes time to fix what was broken,” referring to what was damaged during Biden's presidency.

He argued that tax cuts, trade policies encouraging companies to invest in the US, efforts to lower home prices, and stricter immigration policies would help solve the cost-of-living crisis and create more opportunities for workers. He claimed the country is “on the cusp of the greatest economic year” in its history.
