BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA: Three people, including two minor children and a woman, are facing murder charges after a three-year-old girl was beaten to death in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Terica Scott, who is a relative of the two minor suspects and an acquaintance of the three-year-old's mother, has been arrested, as per WAFB .
What did Terica Scott do?
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a medical assistance call at a home on O’Neal Lane on Monday, February 12, and found an unresponsive three-year-old girl.
The child had a brain bleed, facial abrasions and bruises that were consistent with blunt force trauma. The child was sent to a hospital in severe condition. The sheriff's office stated that the child passed away on Wednesday, February 14, as a result of her injuries.
Eight youngsters, aged 11 months to 12 years, were discovered by deputies to have been left alone in the house for several hours on Monday.
When deputies arrived at the house, Terica Scott, the relative of mother of the three-year-old, was there and informed them that she had just left the casino. A desertion summon was sent to her.
Who are the other suspects?
A 10-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy, Scott’s son and nephew who were left unattended with the other children, were later identified as suspects.
Their names were not being released because they are juveniles. They were both arrested on Friday, February 16, and booked into the EBR Juvenile Detention Center for simple battery and second-degree murder.
Scott said she knew of the suspects’ violent behavior. She was booked into the EBR Parish Prison for principal to battery and principal to second-degree murder.
The sheriff’s office said another arrest is forthcoming.
"Case like this is devastating," Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said in the release.
"My heart breaks for this child lost too soon, and I pray for the others involved. Please call law enforcement immediately if you are ever aware of abuse, neglect or desertion of children."
