DALLAS, TEXAS: A 6-year-old Texas girl was killed in a shooting in Old East Dallas on Wednesday, January 10, weeks after her teen brother was fatally shot dead.

At around 2:40 pm, according to Dallas Police, officers were alerted to a shooting incident in the 2100 block of North Fitzhugh Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered an injured child.

Police yet to identify accused

Dallas Police is still investigating the shooting death of the 6-year-old girl, whose identity has not been revealed. The identity of the accused and the motive behind the shooting is yet to be ascertained.

When police arrived at the residence on North Fitzhugh Avenue in Old East Dallas, they reported seeing multiple kids and an unlocked firearm. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died.

On Wednesday, January 10 night, police said it was still unknown how the child was shot. Dallas Police have not released any other information about the shooting or announced any arrests.

Markia Boyd, who lives two doors down from the victim, told NBC 5 the child was a "sweet little girl" who had played with her own children. "That hurts," Boyd said, after learning the girl had died of her injury.

She added, "God, there's a plan behind all this. I'm trying to not cry ... I'm shaking right now."

Victim's brother was shot dead on December 29

At the scene, the child's aunt told police that her mother was at a funeral home at the time of the shooting, making arrangements to bury her 14-year-old son, Ah'bralen Rider.

Rider's shooting happened around 4:40 am on Friday, December 29 on Harry Hines Boulevard. As per Fox4, first responders took two 14-year-olds with gunshot wounds to the hospital. Rider died on Sunday, December 31.

The second 14-year-old is expected to survive. A 16-year-old suspect, whose name is not revealed, was arrested and initially charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Reports say that one of those charges will now be upgraded to manslaughter, according to police.
