HOUSTON, TEXAS: A 36-year-old man was shot and killed in his family's presence as three men tried to rob this truck during an overnight home invasion, as reported by Fox News.

Detective David Hicks of the Houston Police Department's homicide division stated that home security cameras caught three ski-masked trying to steal the man's truck which was parked outside. Failing to do so, the men forced their way into the house at around 2.30 am on Sunday, February 25.

The man reportedly saw the suspects through his security cameras but the ensuing noise and commotion woke up the family to take notice of the break-in.

According to investigators, the three men broke into the house and turned out the lights after they were unable to take the truck. The man's wife and children were inside the house with him when the masked men entered, and shot the father several times.

A police report stated that as soon as the man got up from telling his wife to stay hidden in their bedroom, an intruder in the hallway started shooting. According to officials, his wife and children saw the man get shot to death but were not harmed, according to ABC13.

Officials stated that the children were "small kids," reported KHOU.

When police arrived at the scene of the shooting on Castle Creek Drive, they discovered the victim inside his house with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Hicks, the family did not witness the man being shot.

No arrests made so far

The man's spouse reported to the police that she and her husband witnessed the three men attempt to break into the truck. She informed investigators that after hearing gunshots, they discovered the man dead.

The victim's stepdaughter informed detectives that she was not present in the house at the time of the shooting and that she did not know why the family had been singled out.

Even though "it's early on in the investigation," Detective Higgs stated that police currently do not have a description of the suspects or a suspect vehicle. The authorities don't know why the burglars decided to target the house.
