‘That bothered me’: JD Vance embraces ‘conspiracy theorist’ label over Epstein files on 'The View'
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Vice President JD Vance found himself defending President Donald Trump, calling for transparency in the Jeffrey Epstein case and sparring with the hosts of 'The View' during a contentious appearance on the ABC talk show on Tuesday, June 16.
The interview, which marked a rare appearance by a senior Trump administration official on the largely liberal daytime program, quickly turned to Epstein and Trump's past ties to the disgraced financier.
JD Vance embraces conspiracy theorist label
Asked about reports that White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has privately described him as a conspiracy theorist on the Epstein matter, Vance said the characterization was fair.
"I love Susie, but absolutely, she thinks I'm a conspiracy theorist on the Epstein stuff," Vance said.
The vice president explained that what continues to trouble him is how Epstein maintained relationships with wealthy and influential figures despite being a known predator.
"Because I think that it's crazy that you had this guy who is clearly a predator who was hanging out with a lot of very wealthy and powerful people," Vance said. "That really bothered me."
He added that he supports "full transparency" regarding records and information related to Epstein.
JD Vance disputes Trump-Epstein narrative
One of the interview's sharpest exchanges came when the discussion shifted to Trump's past association with Epstein.
As the hosts questioned Trump's connections to the disgraced financier, Vance argued that critics often ignore the fact that Trump eventually distanced himself from Epstein.
According to Vance, Trump expelled Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago club after learning about concerns regarding his behavior and later alerted authorities.
"Donald Trump literally reported Epstein to the police," Vance said.

When co-host Ana Navarro pushed back and argued that Trump and Epstein had once been close, Vance acknowledged that they knew each other but said that fact is frequently presented without crucial context.
"They say they knew each other in the '80s, but ignore the fact he told on him to the police, which ultimately led to Epstein's downfall," Vance said.
"He kicked Epstein out of his club when he found out he was a creep and reported him to the police. That's something the media often misses when it reports the story."
JD Vance faces tough questions on 'The View'
The exchange highlighted the often-combative nature of Vance's appearance on 'The View,' where the vice president faced questions from hosts who have been frequent critics of the Trump administration.
While the conversation touched on several issues, including inflation, race, and government policy, it was Vance's remarks about Epstein, and his vigorous defense of Trump amid pushback from the panel, that emerged as one of the interview's defining moments.
