‘The man is asleep,’ Hayes ridicules Trump after another nodding-off episode
WASHINGTON, DC: MSNBC host Chris Hayes took on President Donald Trump over his latest nodding-off moment, saying he feels like he is losing it whenever he sees Trump appearing to fall asleep during public appearances.
During Friday’s 'All In', Hayes played a clip from the previous day in which Trump participated in a press gaggle at the White House.
Hayes mocks Trump for dozing off publicly
“I gotta take a moment to play you this clip from a press conference yesterday in the Oval Office,” Hayes told viewers. “You will see the EPA chief, Lee Zeldin, speaking to reporters while standing beside Donald Trump in the Oval Office.”
In the clip played by Hayes, Trump is seen leaning back and closing his eyes for quite a long time before opening them for a while and then going back to sleep again. Trump repeats this pattern a few times.
During the segment, Hayes argued that viewers had become desensitized to what he described as Trump repeatedly appearing to fall asleep during public appearances.
Referring to the clip, Hayes said it had become “a daily thing,” insisting that Trump was not merely resting his eyes.
“I feel like I’m losing my mind. It’s like, that is not– how is that the president of the United States, Philip, standing, sitting in front of everyone. This is now a daily thing. Look. Look! He’s asleep,” Hayes added.
“Look! He’s asleep! The man is asleep!” Hayes exclaimed.
Bump blasts Trump supporter over defense of president
CT Insider columnist Philip Bump agreed, saying Trump’s supporters were unwilling to acknowledge what was visible in the footage.
Bump argued that defending the president’s appearance required supporters to ignore “the evidence of your eyes.”
“It’s also sort of fascinating to see the extent to which this has become a litmus test. It is impossible for his supporters to say anything other than, “No, no, no, you’re wrong. He’s not looking tired at all.”
“Dude’s falling asleep, and maybe he should not put himself in that position,” he said.
The clip quickly gained traction on social media, with critics mocking the president over his appearance. The Democratic Party’s official account labeled Trump “The Commander-in-Sleep.”
President Donald Trump is frequently seen nodding off during public events and meetings, which has often been attributed to his erratic sleep pattern e and advancing age.
Some medical experts have speculated that physical characteristics and age place him at a higher risk for obstructive sleep apnea.
This condition is known to disturb nighttime sleep and cause severe daytime fatigue.
