The 83-year-old co-host told the ABC panel show audience on Monday that she had missed the prior week because she had suffered a "very, very, very painful" broken toe when she accidentally dropped her heavy iPad on her foot.
"We didn't walk out today in sympathy of my foot," she said, explaining that the cast had decided to skip their usual entrance. "I broke my toe last week... last Monday."

Whoopi Goldberg is busy filming a cameo for Italy's longest-running soap opera
Joy Behar's return coincided with the absence of Whoopi Goldberg, who has taken a five-day leave for a work commitment in Italy. Behar told the audience, "If you're wondering why I'm here on a Monday, and Whoopi is not, it's because she's in Italy filming a soap opera."
The 70-year-old EGOT winner is in Naples, filming a cameo appearance for 'Un Posto Al Sole', the country's longest-running soap opera. She let her followers know via an Instagram Story, captioning a photo from hair and make-up, "If you notice I'm not on The View this week it's because I'm in Italy working."
Goldberg sent a brief video clip to the show in which she said that she was nervous about the role. "I met the two directors, met everybody, and it's still very nerve-wracking," she added.
Hostin explained that Goldberg's role will be as "an American translator who moves into the apartment complex in the soap opera." During her chat with the show's executive producer Brian Teta on 'The View: Behind the Table', Goldberg said that this acting gig was a long time coming. "It's time for me to do some things in addition to this The View," she shared.
