Joy Behar slams Trump for calling Pelosi ‘evil’ after she revealed retirement: ‘Shows how threatened he was’
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On ‘The View’, host Joy Behar didn't hold back about President Donald Trump’s celebratory comments over former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's retirement.
The co-hosts, even those who disagreed with Pelosi politically, acknowledged her legislative skill and highlighted her public feud with Trump.
Joy Behar slams Donald Trump over Pelosi retirement comments
Joy Behar began the discussion by reminding viewers that Pelosi was Trump’s “chief tormentor,” giving credit to her for confronting him, especially when “she tore up the State of the Union.”
Behar then addressed Trump’s comments to Fox News, where he said, “The retirement of Nancy Pelosi is a great thing for America. She was evil, corrupt, and only focused on bad things for our country. She was rapidly losing control of her party,” later calling her a “highly overrated politician.”
Behar condemned Trump’s remarks, particularly given the 2022 attack on Pelosi’s husband: “This is the president of the United States speaking about a colleague whose husband was banged over the head with a hammer by who knows who.”
She concluded by stating, “It just shows you how threatened he was by her.”
Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin praise Pelosi’s political skill
Sunny Hostin noted that the feud was mutual, pointing to Pelosi’s own criticism of Trump, where she described him as “just a vile creature, the worst thing on the face of the earth” during a CNN interview. Hostin added approvingly, “She gives it back."
Even Alyssa Farah Griffin, who served in the Trump White House and admitted she couldn’t “agree with on everything” with Pelosi, expressed admiration for the retiring Speaker. She said she admires “the hell out of” Pelosi, calling her a master strategist and “the best vote counter.”
Griffin praised Pelosi’s political accomplishments, saying, “She has had tremendous victories over the years for House Democrats,” and concluded, “It’s incredibly big shoes to fill… I really do admire her.”
Nancy Pelosi retires after 19 terms in Congress
Pelosi, 85, will retire after serving her 19th term, leaving behind a historic legacy as the first woman ever elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives.
Representing a portion of San Francisco throughout her career, she has been a strong leader within the Democratic Party. As the hosts wrapped up the segment, they discussed potential successors, suggesting House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries or even Pelosi’s daughter, Christine Pelosi, a political strategist.
