LOS ANGESLES, CALIFORNIA: Robert Durst, a wealthy real estate heir from New York, had been suspected of three murders.

The victims were his first wife, Kathleen McCormack Durst, who disappeared in 1982; his friend Susan Berman, who was shot dead in December 2000; and his neighbor Morris Black, whom he admitted to dismembering but was acquitted of murdering in 2001, claiming self-defense.

Director Andrew Jarecki, whom Durst contacted after seeing Jarecki’s film "All Good Things" based on Durst’s life, interviewed Durst for 21 hours for 'The Jinx'.

'The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst' started airing in February 2015 as a six-part miniseries.

Unexpectedly, the filmmakers caught Durst making a startling confession on camera, which resulted in his arrest and later conviction for murder.

HBO's groundbreaking documentary series, 'The Jinx', delved into Durst's suspected involvement in various crimes, culminating in a shocking confession that led to his arrest.

Subsequently, he was convicted for the murder of Berman in 2000 and received a life sentence. Durst, 78, died in prison in January 2022.

'The Jinx Part 2', which premiered on Max on April 21, explores his trial and conviction, as per HollyReporter.

During his final interview for the documentary, Durst, while still wearing a microphone, made a startling comment to himself in the bathroom. "There it is, You’re caught," he muttered, seemingly unaware of being recorded.

He also said, "You’re right, of course. But you can't imagine. Arrest him."

He then continued, "What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course." This confession led to his arrest in New Orleans, albeit on unrelated weapons charges.

Interestingly, the filmmakers only discovered this audio two years after it was recorded.

On the eve of 'The Jinx's finale on March 15, 2015, Durst was arrested and charged with Berman's murder in 2000. He was subsequently convicted of the crime on September 17, 2021.

Over 100 witnesses, including the filmmakers, testified during the trial, with prosecutors suggesting Durst killed Berman due to her knowledge about his wife's disappearance in 1982.

The following month, New York authorities charged Durst with second-degree murder in connection with the disappearance of his wife, Kathleen, whose body has never been found.

The second series of 'The Jinx' will explore the aftermath of Durst's confession, his trial, and the revelations that ensued.

'The Jinx: Part Two' will consist of six episodes. Following the premiere, new episodes will be released at 10 pm every Sunday, as per People.

The finale is scheduled to be streamed on May 26, 2024. It will also feature Durst's prison calls, interviews with new witnesses, and more.

'The Jinx' part two: 'Biggest thing to hit my office since OJ’

The trailer for 'The Jinx Part - Two' was released along with the premiere date on Wednesday.

It revisits the moment when the filmmakers left off with the “five words everyone is talking about.”

An investigator in the documentary thought, “This is going to be the biggest thing to hit my office since OJ [Simpson].”

The trailer suggests that the Durst story is far from over, as Durst himself mentions, “I heard Jarecki is doing a sequel.”

Jarecki shares that he found an audio recording that changed his perspective on something he's been working on for 17 years.

An unidentified woman starts to tell her story, and Durst promises “surprises and surprises.”

The logline for Part Two says, “The filmmakers continue their investigation for the next eight years, uncovering hidden material, Durst’s prison calls and interviews with witnesses who had not come forward until now.”

When Durst was convicted, Jarecki reacted by saying, “I can’t say I was surprised because if you watch the trial it was extraordinary. Bob admits in the trial that he lied five times and perjured himself in this trial."

"He also admits that he lied in his prior trial. … You can’t be amazed by it, but at the same time it’s very gratifying because you also know this is a man who’s evaded justice for so long that all you can do is hope for the families of the victims that there are not going to be surprises,” he noted.

In interviews since 'The Jinx' released, Jarecki has stood by Durst’s final words in the series (“I think that’s certainly what he says, and I have no reason to believe that that’s not the case”), though he said the timing of the arrest was a coincidence, as per Hollywood Reporter.

'The Jinx — Part Two' is directed by Jarecki; executive produced by Zac Stuart-Pontier, Jarecki, and Kyle Martin; produced by Charlotte Kaufman and Sam Neave; co-produced by Richard Hankin and Susan Lazarus; and executive produced by Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller, and Sara Rodriguez for HBO.
