ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Disarray unfolded on the opening day at Six Flags Over Georgia as a brawl broke out within the theme park, ultimately leading to a minor being shot after police had to open fire.

Cobb County police stated they reported to the scene on the night of Saturday, March 2, after being called to disperse a "sizeable unruly crowd" of 500 to 600 people who were "running through the park and fighting" to Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB-TV.

Police opened fire outside Six Flags Over Georgia after multiple people began shooting an unoccupied CCPD patrol car

On reaching the amusement park, police were met with a large crowd leaving the park.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, in charge of an investigation into the shooting, noted that Cobb County officials were there to assist with crowd control "after several fights had taken place amongst patrons" near the park's entrance.

"At some point, multiple people began shooting, hitting an unoccupied CCPD-marked patrol car. As officers identified where the shots were coming from, they ran after people who had run into the woods. During the incident, one CCPD officer fired his weapon, hitting one minor," added the report, as per ABC7

The unidentified 15-year-old was taken to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. While TMZ reports that the teenager is dead, several other news outlets claim he remains in critical condition.

As per the GBI, a handgun was recovered in close proximity to the minor.

Six Flags Over Georgia acknowledged the shooting incident took place outside the park premises on nearby South Service Road and expressed disappointment at the disruption caused by groups of underage individuals at public events across the region.

In a statement sent to WANF, the park emphasized, "Our goal is to provide safe, fun entertainment. We employ state of the art security systems and metal detection, maintain a robust and vigilant Public Safety Department, and have strong support from Cobb County Police who are present both inside and outside the park."

It continued, "Just like other venues in the area, we are committed to keeping this type of trouble outside our park and off our property. We join our community and the Atlanta region in our commitment to safety and security. We won’t put up with that type of activity here."
