WASHINTON, DC: On Sunday, Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark) launched a scathing critique of Vice President Kamala Harris, alleging that her popularity would dramatically decline if voters were to scrutinize her more closely.

Cotton argued that Harris has evaded addressing questions related to her "radical positions." This criticism came during his appearance on CBS’ 'Face the Nation'.

Tom Cotton accuses Harris of media evasion and radical policies, overlooks Trump’s debate maneuver

Cotton, a staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, had been a leading candidate for the vice presidential spot on Trump’s 2024 ticket before being passed over in favor of Ohio Senator JD Vance.

During the interview, Cotton claimed that Harris had not answered “one single question” from the media since President Joe Biden suspended his reelection campaign.

“What we all agree on is what a disaster Kamala Harris would be as president,” Cotton told host Ed O’Keefe president,“She is a dangerous San Francisco liberal, who wants to do things like take your health insurance away on the job and give it to illegal aliens, because she wants to decriminalize illegal immigration into this country.”

Harris’ policy positions include universal background checks, bans on assault weapons, and initiatives to combat climate change, along with more nuanced stances on immigration.

Cotton sidesteps Trump’s remarks on Harris’ racial identity and debate evasion

Cotton also avoided disavowing Trump’s controversial comments about Harris’s racial identity during a conference for Black journalists, despite Trump’s statements on the matter. Cotton suggested that Trump’s remarks were not about Harris’ racial identity but rather her political stance.

In a notable omission, Cotton did not address Trump’s own controversial decision to dodge the upcoming presidential debate scheduled for September 10, hosted by ABC News.

Instead of participating in the debate, Trump has indicated he will appear on Fox News. Cotton’s focus remained on Harris’ media interactions, criticizing her for allegedly avoiding press scrutiny despite her active campaign schedule.

“When she has to encounter the media, and I’m sure you’re going to insist that she does, she’s going to have to answer for things like why she wants to eliminate oil and gas production in this country, why she wants to ban gas-powered cars, why she wants to confiscate private firearms,” Cotton stated.

Harris vows to attend debate despite Trump’s evasion, campaign accuses him of 'running scared'

In response, Harris has affirmed her commitment to attending the debate, even if she is the sole candidate present.

Her campaign has criticized Trump’s attempts to evade the debate, accusing him of "running scared" and manipulating the media landscape to his advantage. “Donald Trump is running scared and trying to back out of the debate he already agreed to and running straight to Fox News to bail him out,” Harris’s campaign said.

“He needs to stop playing games and show up to the debate he already committed to on Sept. 10.”
