WASHINGTON, DC: Sen Tom Cotton (R-Ar) went on the offensive against Vice President Kamala Harris while defending former president Donald Trump's racially insensitive remarks against the former, during his appearance on CNN's 'The Source' with host Kaitlan Collins on Wednesday, July 31.

Earlier on the same day, Trump had attended the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention in Chicago where he questioned Harris' ethnicity while interacting with ABC reporter Rachel Scott on stage.

"I've known (Harris) a long time indirectly... and she was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn't know she was Black, until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black," said Trump, adding, "So I don't know, is she Indian or is she Black?"

What did Sen Tom Cotton say about Kamala Harris?

When asked if Donald Trump questioning Democratic nominee Kamala Harris' race increases or decreases the Republican's chance in the upcoming general election, Tom Cotton claimed that the media should focus on Harris' policies for the United States moving forward, rather than "what Donald Trump said today".

"Four years ago, Joe Biden said (that) if you don't vote for him, you ain't Black. Could you imagine a more insulting comment?" he asked.

"Joe Biden is claiming to judge the political views of one-eighth of our fellow citizens by their skin color. Did you ever ask Kamala Harris to condemn his remarks?"

The host tried to interject, stating that she wanted her Republican guest to focus on the GOP leader's comment, but the senator continued, "Did you ask Kamala Harris why she was willing to serve as Vice President for a man she essentially called racist and a segregationist?"

Internet lauds Tom Cotton's response

Sen Tom Cotton's sharp response to the CNN host earned him praise from netizens over the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Some MAGA supporters went on to slam the network, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"CNN got burnt. Played with fire and got burnt," wrote a user.

"The Legacy Media is garbage and should be treated as such," stated another.

"Legacy media is unwatchable. Just lies and gaslighting," echoed a third.

"Perfect answer," commented a fourth.

"CNN doesn’t care about racism in their own party. They only use it as a gotcha moment for Conservatives," jibed a fifth.

"Well, if you ask a leading question, you may get taken on a trip down a different pathway," quipped another.
