Tom Holland shares he's ready to pass the 'Spider-Man' torch and he wants to do it the RDJ way
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Holland seems ready to at least think about life beyond 'Spider-Man'. In a recent interview, the 29-year-old hinted that the franchise could someday shift focus to characters like Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, or Spider-Woman.
Nothing is confirmed yet, but Holland said he would love to be part of setting up the “next chapter,” similar to how Robert Downey Jr helped introduce him into the Marvel world. His comments come just ahead of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day's release on July 31.
Tom Holland says he wants to help introduce the next Spider hero
During an interview with Empire, the actor shared that he would love to help introduce the next generation of Spider heroes someday. Holland, who became the third actor to play Peter Parker on the big screen after Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, mentioned characters like Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Woman as possible future leads.
“For whoever's next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,” Holland said. “Whatever that looks like, I don't know."
The actor also compared his idea to the role Robert Downey Jr played in helping him enter the Marvel universe through 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'. “But, if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset,” Holland added.
Fans loved the strong bond between Peter Parker and Tony Stark, but their off-screen friendship was widely praised. While fans are already speculating about Holland leaving the role, the actor did not confirm any exit plans.
Marvel has also not announced anything about replacing 'Spider-Man'. Holland has already starred in three Spider-Man films, with 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' set to become his fourth.
Tom Holland returns in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'
Holland joined the MCU in 2016 as a young Spider-Man and quickly became a major part of the franchise after 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'. For those unaware, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is loosely based on a comic storyline where Peter Parker lives in a world where no one remembers him, but he continues to work as Spider-Man.
The film will also bring back Zendaya as MJ. Alongside Holland and Zendaya, the cast includes returning favorites and new names like Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo. Holland also stars in 'The Odyssey' directed by Christopher Nolan, which is set to release on July 17.
