WASHINGTON, DC: In a pointed critique, Representative Tom McClintock denounced the extreme tactics of far-right Republicans, arguing their approach hinders rather than advancing conservative principles, as per The Hill.

During an appearance on NewsNation’s 'The Hill Sunday', McClintock addressed the disruptive strategies advocated by some of his Republican colleagues who favor a "burn it down" mentality over working within the established system.

McClintock specifically criticized the removal of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted in a move he believes illustrates these counterproductive tactics.

"The tactics that they’re using aren’t advancing those principles. They’re an impediment to those principles," McClintock stated. Reflecting on McCarthy's tenure, he highlighted significant achievements made under a slim majority, including the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which aimed to reduce federal spending by $2.6 trillion over a decade.

"He [McCarthy] had produced, with a very slender majority, some absolutely remarkable accomplishments. All of those things with a majority of just five members. He was able to accomplish all that and was then destroyed, not by the Republicans, but by all of the Democrats joined by eight Republican malcontents," McClintock noted.

Before the vote that saw a few Republicans join Democrats in removing McCarthy, McClintock had penned a letter urging his peers to reconsider, stressing the damage such actions could inflict on the country.

McClintock has also stood out as one of the few Republicans to vote against impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the handling of southern border migration issues.

The other two dissenting Republicans, Ken Buck and Mike Gallagher, have since retired from Congress. When asked why he continues to serve, McClintock quoted Winston Churchill, "I fight for my corner, and I leave when the pub closes."

McClintock emphasized the critical juncture at which he believes the country currently stands, expressing his commitment to guiding the nation through these challenges.

"I think our country is at a pivotal moment in its history. And I think it’s going to prevail through the difficulties we’re in, but it’s going to require all of us doing whatever we can to bring our country through," he expressed.
